Eye floaters Empty Eye floaters

Post  j87x Wed Oct 21, 2009 9:33 pm

All my life I have had annoying floaters in my eyes. I read that hyaluronic acid can help, so upon further investigation I searched "floaters" on iherb. Some other things came up such as pycogenol, vinpocetine, bilberry, and lutein esters. Does CS or anyone else know more about supplements to help floaters? Which supplement(s) would be best for getting rid of them?

My vision has gone from 5.5 - 3.5 by taking care of my eyes, LLLT/cloud gazing and also taking supplements. I'm shooting for 20/20 vision in the next 3 more years and I may get there.

These are the ones I take that probably have the greatest benefit for eyes

http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-Zeaxanthin-with-Lutein-10-mg-60-Capsules/4547?at=0

or krill oil for Astaxanthin

200 mg of Hyaluronic acid or bone broth each day

Also, limit glutamate consumption. It's found in everything .... more info = http://www.msgtruth.org/eyesight.htm

While this helps with vision, I'm sure this would also help with your floaters.

Thanks. What do you mean LLLT? Surely you don't shine lasers into your eyes? And what is cloud gazing? You just stare at clouds and it helps your vision?

lol, yeah, what I mean by using LLLT is shining a laser without it's focusing lens into your eye. This is extremely dangerous though and only to be used by people that know what they are doing otherwise you'll win the Darwin award of the year if you know what I mean. LED's would be the safe bet for most people.

Here's a good link for more info http://www.thorlaser.com/media/media-archives/light-therapy.htm#

Sun gazing or cloud gazing whatever it's called is just turning your back to the sun and looking straight up into the clouds without contacts, glasses, etc.. You hold your gaze for as long as possible without blinking. At first, it will be very hard and your reflexes will almost force you to blink but try not to. But again, don't look at the sun. Turn your back to the sun. There use to be some good info online about some people getting results in reducing or even eliminating their prescription for contacts.

j87x - This combination may help you: 1,000 milligrams of choline, 500 milligrams of inositol, and 200 milligrams of methionine daily. Try it for at least 5 months.

to be honest the only chance to get rid of these bastards is vitrectomy (FOV).
But this is very dangerous...
You can try to zap them with yag lasers but that´s not very effective an dangerous too.

I don´t think taht supplemts will resolve floaters. I really read and tried a lot but nothing worked. But I would be interested why immortal recommands this combination with inosistol Question

tao81 - I don't usually recommend what is in the Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR), but this is one of the exceptions. That's my source.

Just an interesting side note...

When I was on finasteride, I suffered from a few side effects. One of them is perhaps the least mentioned: eye floaters.

I'd get them like crazy.

But when I got off finasteride, the eye floaters gradually went away.

I got my sexual side effects in mid 1999 and then I stopped taking finasteride. I noticed things in my eyes in late 1999 and then in Feb 2000 I got floaters in both eyes. One is attached to the lens capsule of my rigth eye.

yeah floaters can be very nasty if you have a lot of them or very big ones.
Unfortunately nothing besides FOV can be done right now.
I don´t think fin causes floaters- not every shit that happens is due to fin.

Go do your research. Eye floaters have been reported by different finasteride users.

It's not a common side effect but it has happened to me & others, too.

LA - I know some fin users claim fin for the rising of their floaters. But that does not proof anything. I´m, pretty sure it´s not the fin just chance. people tend to say every bad thing what happens to them is a side from their medic.

Hey tao81 - So you think finasteride users get eye floaters because of "chance"?

Look, you're right, some people exaggerate their sides. And, yes, it's tough to empirically prove a causal relationship between eye floaters and fin. BUT...

In my case, I had no previous history of eye floaters. Once I started finasteride, I got eye floaters. Once I quit finasteride, the eye floaters went away.

Certainly doesn't seem like chance to me.

Post  CausticSymmetry Mon Oct 26, 2009 3:16 pm

I performed a basic search to see what would come up with eye floaters and finasteride. I saw reports of floaters, maybe associated with elevated prolactin levels, perhaps as prolactinomas (benign tumors that are not that uncommon) or perhaps it is estrogen induced prolactin. In any case, elevated prolactin can compress the optic nerve and can affect vision changes such as eye floaters.

In years past I could not positively link finasteride use with elevated prolactin, but I've only seen a single study and maybe it wasn't conclusive. There's certainly a lot of hypothyroid people on finasteride and this condition usually comes with high prolactin output.

Propeciahelp: A website known for unresolved cases of finasteride side-effects is not short on this side.

LA- I´m sure you still have floaters but you don´t recoginze them. Maybe some of them are went out of your axis of sight because teh vitrous body is in movement.
See I suddenly got floaters and hadn´t noticed any before without fin. Indeed i was one year on fin without any floater and stoped due to sex sides and my floaters appeared one year after stopping...
Í really sufferd from them and I can tell you I studied them and fin is not causing floaters no way.

There are different types of floaters but the most common are waste or say better conglumaration of collagen fibriles (sry english is not my mother thongue).
They are way more common in short sighted people because these have a bigger vitrous body than normal. Often partial vitrous detachment is the main reason for them. Accidents to the eye which lead to a compresion of teh vitrous body creats floaters.
Till now other reasons which cause the degenerativ effect of the collagen icluded in the vitrous body are unknown.

I've had them as far as I can remember. When summer comes around I'll have to sun gaze, my eyes are very sensitive and I can't even stare at the ground continuously when it's sunny out, maybe this will also reduce the effect of floaters.

Bumping, rather than start a new one.

Have there been any updates on this front? I've had dark floaters for 15 years or more, at one point a few years in they were especially bad, but in the last few years I've noticed they appear smaller, broken, more spread out, but not higher in number.

On the eye subject, I've noticed that if my eyes water, sometimes there's a stinging type of irritation where it meets the eye, like if you accidentally rub a mild acid in your eyes, and you have to flush it out for a minute. Any idea what this could be?

Also I've been drinking a large amount of lemon water in hopes it might improve in time (liver flushing).

Anyone have an experience here? I have perfect vision, just shrouded by this layer of specks.

Read in the imminst forum that someone dissolved their floaters with carnosine eye drops. I tried 2 bottles and didn't do anything, might need long term use.

I've read good and bad things about eye drops too... seems kind of hit or miss. Plus I have trouble believing how the drop can penetrate to the back and bottom of the eyes. Maybe slowly through repeated use like you say, but drops really have to get deep in there.

The drops I've seen listed at other places are Bright Eyes and Can-C.

Makes me wonder if the debris in the eye is just too large to be dissolved and removed, as the vitreous replaces itself often.
