Huge shedding from candida cleanse, now beginning paleo
To begin with my regiment I went on a candida cleanse, Which is one week of only vegetables and eggs and no carrots or starchy stuff. Combined with a bunch of apple cider vinegar, I even took baths in the stuff. I did all necessary to clean my system.
For the second week I introduced chicken salmon and nuts and beef. I cooked with coconut oil and did shots of the stuff, I took a probiotic over the past week. Over the two weeks I got progressively worse shedding ending with the absolute worse its ever been I'd say up to 125-150 a day. I feel like im almost breachig nw2 now.I chalked this up either candida die off, or sudden diet change causing telogen effluvium. Opinions?
The results of this change in diet were that my anal leakage and itchy asshole cleared up, and I hope it does not return. I lost about 5-8 pounds of fat. My hair loss also significantly ramped up, with itching and all. I am now beginning a paleo diet for about a fortnight to see its effects on hairloss.
Side note- I heard about the book "hair like a fox". It intrigues me, I have a feeling it's sort of scammy though. Anyone got legit results from this

Re: Huge shedding from candida cleanse, now beginning paleo
Soon after I did the candida diet I developed hirsutism, I have no idea if it was the diet but it made me very wary about diets. And unfortunately there isn't much info on the net about the candida diet causing such problems (and I worked out I was lactose intolerant). Shame though because it helped my IBS.
Hair shedding is only a problem if the hair isn't being replaced; unfortunately that's impossible to tell if it's being replaced until it's noticeabley thinned. When my hair thinned I didn't notice any hair falling out at all.
I've heard about very low carb diets messing with the thyroid, maybe you should take your basal body temp?
With regards to hair like a fox/Ray Peat a lot of the advice is similar to the advice you'd get on this forum such as avoiding bad oils and addressing insulin resistance and thyroid; it's just gone about in a different way. I have also seen one poster on here say they helped their hair with Ray Peat diet, there might be others, but I'm assuming they don't post any more.

Re: Huge shedding from candida cleanse, now beginning paleo
I tried a low carb diet and it just didn't work for me. Was constantly hungry and I was spending way too much money on food. Now I eat sourdough bread, tubers, potatoes etc as my main carbohydrate source. During weekends I eat freely: pasta, pizza, I don't give a shit. I eat raw cheese during the week, I buy also dry sausages, pate, salmon, sardines or anchovies, minced meat, eat eggs each breakfast.
My advice: cut all processed food, cook at home as much as you can, buy locally and organic, start eating only seasonal vegetables. If you eat a bunch of legumes and whole rice soak them in an acidic medium to eliminate phytic acid (raw apple cider vinegar, kefir, etc.). If you have a garden start growing your own stuff I mainly steam my vegetables to preserve nutrients. I eat some stuff raw.
Throughout the past year or two I experimented a lot with different diets, was even vegetarian for a while, tried a bunch of different supplements etc. I have experienced multiple sheds. If you shed hair don't worry it will come back. Given that you keep inflammation under control, and promote hair growth with the right supps.
The ray peat diet is something I would never manage to do: I love eating food and I spend a lot of time to cook. That diet would take out the pleasure of eating and cooking from my life.
My results ? I think I'm regrowing, but maybe it's only in my head. Who cares, the good thing I know is that I'm trying my best to fight MPB. And if I will lose the battle, at least I tried
Good luck man

Also look into fermenting your own vegetables (like sauerkraut). I do it every 2 weeks and stock batches. Way cheaper than buying probiotics.
A lot of people experience sheds while on new diets. the most important things for me is that you have to feel good, and feel good with what you eat.

Re: Huge shedding from candida cleanse, now beginning paleo
and for me Paleo is a bit of a fashion now a days. There are a lot of people making money by selling this diet. The more you study diets and nutrition the more you will realise that you will have to take a leap of faith. There are a bunch of people out there promoting the exact opposite of paleo (fruitarians, the dude that did a ted talk on starch based diet etc.). My suggestion: don't start with a radical diet, for me the trough lies a bit in the middle. I would be weary to completely cut carbs and starches from your diet...

Radiance hit the nail on the head. I like a lot of the paleo principles but you've got to realize with any diet that turns itself into a camp, its got to have marketable characteristics. The carb fear of a lot of the paleo circles is that point. I think rather than a fear of carbohydrate, it should be looked at like a tool. Like gasoline in your car engine. You tend to go for some type of efficiency when gassing up your vehicle. You don't just toss gas in the tank all the time, whenever and wherever. Gasoline is a tool you apply cautiously. Same goes for carbs, imo.

Re: Huge shedding from candida cleanse, now beginning paleo
I'm not too sure, i've tried paleo about 2 years ago when i was still in school. I followed it for about 6-8 months. I got very lean with no loss of muscle in other words I was ripped. I felt energetic and strong, and my sex drive went from high to higher. I ate sufficient carbs, fruit and what not, and I implemented cheats whenever I would go out to dinner, enjoy my self a burrito.
The reason I didn't stick with it is, I missed my carbs and pastry way too much, and I hated having to explain it to people who just wanted to cook for me (sounding all pretentious "im on this diet"). But I think with a head of hair on the line, I could follow through...
I'll update in about a fortnight in how its going.
