Short for Non non alcholic fatty liver disease. They have her on Vitamin E. Doing more blood work.. But is there anything else she can take to help this problem

I would say that pretty much everything in the IH regimen helps prevent NAFLD, since fatty liver disease is a marker of metabolic syndrome.

INdeed but I don't think she would make a huge commitment to such a regimen due to the price.

The cheapest way to help NAFLD is to eat very low carbohydrate diet and taken NAC and Lipoic Acid.

Re: A friend of mine has NAFLD
abc123,
Monosaccharides, especially fructose, have been shown to be the direct cause of lipid synthesis in the liver. Fructose might not cause a glycemic response, but that's because it's metabolized in the liver...and it's to be avoided especially if you already have NAFLD.

Sick of this fructose bashing, not singling out you I think you're great poster, low carb/alt health community seems to just love doing it though with not the best rationale.

Fructose does nothing bad w/o pufa. Not scientific: but my dad had nafld I told him to avoid pufa. 3 months later fatty deposits decreased but still there. Then told him to drop grains/starch, fruit only approx 250g carbs, in a week fatty liver completely gone and remains gone for months now. That's 125g of fructose for an old man who does 0 organized exercise.
Either way, I do think the optimal dosage is a very individual thing. I likely have the same genetic disposition for nafld and I personally consume 200g fructose/day and I haven't died yet O.O , it's been the opposite.
Would much rather focus on leaky gut imo

Oh forgot to say, would tell her to take tocosorb or something similar instead. I think it had a 66% rate of curing it within a year. Most likely they are giving her just alpha tocopherol which is no where near as good.

Re: A friend of mine has NAFLD
abc123 - Nice article there. Over the last several years, I've been rigorously researching fructose and also share the opinion that it's no where near as bad as much of the health community is making it out to be.
In fact, if given the choice between sugar and fructose, I will choose fructose every time.
In the following article, reveals how in a relatively light weight person, it takes over 100 grams of fructose to create weight gain in a sedentary individual.

To be fair to the anti-fructose supporters though, I will say that in the form such as cola, and with high consumption, being sedentary will allow it to deplete energy and disrupt satiety.
Getting back to supporting fructose again, I like it because it doesn't raise insulin levels to much degree, especially when compared to sugar.
Also, to support abc123's observation, a recent study showed how polyunsaturated fatty acids, in this case, very long chain fatty acids (fish oil) increased fatty liver in monkeys.
Further research on humans might prove interesting.
