Iodine and Probiotics

Does iodine kill the good bacteria in our guts? I'm just wondering about timing between taking my iodine supp (Lugol's) and taking my probiotic or if I need to take more probiotics b/c I use iodine.

JosephineMarie - There was a period of time where this was believed to be the case. However, it is not so. However, you can still take them apart to be on the safe side.

I would say 30 mins to one hour... the more the better I guess.

If iodine was bad to your flora we'd be hearing about it often.

Very high doses, with bad dietary habits, for a long period of time and no probiotics/prebiotics... I bet that can be bad.

I don't consider 12.5 mg a high dose.


I remember one day feeling crappy (probablly due to SIBO (bad bacteria)). After taking one dose of 50 mg (out of desperation I lost the fear) I felt better that day.

Hey and don't forget your Iodine companion nutrients (Mag, Vit C, Selenium, etc).!


We should really make a Wiki for IH! Many questions are asked again and again, and sometimes valuable info is lost because it's hard to find it... I think it'd be an excellent addition.
