Hello all,

I rarely feel ill but last year I had a mild cold for about 4 days and developed a dry cough on about day 3. I took high dose Vitamin C and the cold went away but the cough didn't! I'd cough many times a day for short durations and I had increased phlegm in my mouth. During that time I visited the doctor and had an asthma test but all was fine. I had bouts of coughing for over 3 months before it disappeared.

Fast forward to a month ago, I had a cold that lasted about 4 days and developed a dry cough on about day 3. I took high dose Vitamin C and the cold went away but the cough is still here. It seems slightly worse than last time too. I am coughing frequently and sometimes with durations over 5 seconds. I seem to have increased phlegm. I cough just as much when I sit as when I stand but when I lay down, the coughing seems to improve after about 20 minutes. Also when I inhale and exhale deeply through my nose and pause for about 5 seconds before my next inhalation, if I keep doing this for over 5 minutes, the coughing seems to stop for a while. Everytime I wake up from bed, I don't cough and feel fine but after about 10-20 minutes, it starts again and seems to get worse as the day goes on.

Any ideas?

Some form of bronchitis? If you smoke try to stop for a while when you get these coughs. Try Cold-FX or anything with ginseng in it. When I get the beginnings of a cold I drink an energy drink called "cheetah". It doesn't have any caffeine in it but it has ginseng. And ginseng is a proven immune system builder. My colds never get any worse and they go away fairly fast after drinking that drink.

if its a cold/flu or sedondary chest infection from the cold or flu, lysine and reishi mushrooms are good for stopping duplication of viruses. shingles also for that matter.
