Hair weaves are an effective way to add hair or change the length and color of your existing hair. With hair-weaving methods you add natural or synthetic hair to the scalp or hair. If done correctly, the weave looks natural. After you take down the weave or extensions, you are left with you natural hair. Although diet, heredity and health all contribute to the condition of the hair, there are a few hair care techniques that maintain the hair after a weave. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1
Clean your hair and scalp using a shampoo and conditioner formulated for your hair type. Rinse out the shampoo and conditioner with cool water, as hot water removes natural oils from the hair, leaving it dry. Cool water closes the hair cuticle so that hair will be less apt to tangle --- and less tangling means you won't risk breakage as you comb out tangles. Wash the scalp thoroughly, especially if glue was used to connect the weave to the scalp.
2 Dry your hair gently with a towel, or let it air dry. Treating the hair gently reduces breakage and damage. It also reduces the stress on the hair and scalp after you remove a weave. While blow dryers are convenient, heat damages the hair, strips strands of much-needed natural oils and leaves hair dry and brittle. Hair-styling tools such as hot rollers, curling wands and flat irons should also be avoided if possible. Allow the natural hair to rest for awhile after taking down the weave.
3 Moisturize hair to keep it soft and shiny. Apply a dime-size of moisturizer to hair each day, concentrating on the ends. Moisturizers also lubricate the hair, which cuts down on dryness and breakage as the hair grows. There are many hair oils on the market. Look for products with olive oil, coconut oil or camellia oil. Essential oils that are good for the hair are rosemary, nettle and sage, according to the Long Locks website.
Tips & Warnings
When removing the weave, be gentle with the hair and scalp.
