Hi ImmortalHair,
First of all thank you for this very helpful site
I am about to start taking amitriptyline (10 mg 1x/day) for my migraine prevention. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressants but used off label for migraine preventive. I am worried it would accelerate my hair loss. Are there any alternative for migraine prevention that would not cause a hair loss? I am female, can I ake beta sitosterol for dht?

Again thank you for all your help.

nanook - amitriptyline is a drug that is often associated with hair loss. Mostly likely from a slight increase in prolactin.

Check out this thread, all the info you need is right here:

Note that 5-HTP is mentioned which satisfies the serotonin factor. This essentially replaces the effect amitriptyline
would have without the sides.

nanook - I forgot to comment on Beta Sitosterol. Beta Sitosterol is not really ideal for most people. The biggest problem with it is that it reduces too much cholesterol absorption, which reduces the amount of beneficial hormones. If you were male and very, very young it might be okay for a few years at the most.

Here's some basic info for women:
