Low Stomach Acid?

Is there a good way to find out if I have this problem? Some naturopathic websites recommend taking half a teaspoon of baking soda in water first thing in the morning (before eating anything), and seeing if more than five minutes go by before you burp. I tried this method and found that I didn't burp at all.

I've read that Betaine HCL is supposed to help. Are there any other treatments?
