Stomach/Gastric acid

During recent years a lot of companies selling pills have added one argument why their pills are better - protection. What they refer to is some kind of technique that will protect the substance against the evil stomach/Gastric acid that otherwise would destroy the substance! 
What do you guys say? Is is true or just marketing bullshit?

Misirlou - You're referring to enteric coating, which is a shell to protect against stomach acid to allow the ingredients in the capsule to make it to the small intestine intact. Many of these do work.

Does this mean that many products that doesn't offer this coating COULD actually get harmed on the "way down" ?
