IH, what are your general thoughts on this supp. I know it's naturally coupled with Krill, but what about larger doses alone?

Joejoebaggins - Astaxanthin is always supplied in the 1 to 4 milligram dosage. Krill oil when taken at the suggested dose is often about .74 mg to 3 mg.

I haven't seen a single study that involves doses larger than 6 mgs, but can it's main mechanism of action is anti-inflammatory by mediating iNoS, and COX-2.

Here's a basic look at one involving 6 mg dose on human volunteers.

Cannot gage anything after two weeks. Won't order again. Not the antioxidant punch I am accustomed to. May save what is left for the summer--actually, that is unlikely. I could not perceive any benefit.

At the moment, I'd say it isn't worth it.

I heard a RUMOR that 16-20mg of Astaxanthin a day, along with a lot of vitamin C, calcium, potassium, boron, and magnesium, and a raw food diet can reverse gum recession. This was interesting to me because my gums are very receded for a 24 year old (possibly because of candida overgrowth), but I haven't tried it because I haven't seen any proof of it yet, only rumors.

Espio - This just came out today on Green Tea:

http://www.lef.org/whatshot/2009_03.htm#Green-tea-helps-protect-gums

But what also reverse gum disease is Co-Enzyme Q10 and Pomegranate juice.

Back in the good ol' bad days of my nutritional habits and no supplements I had pretty bad gums.
My teeth were disintegrating in some places and had some thrush. Today, none of that at all and
my teeth are completely restored--no dental work whatsoever.

Hi there IH,

Interesting what you said about your reversal of your bad gums condition. Did you use a specific protocol to achieve this or basically what you're doing at the moment with your supplement program. As I understand it, to reverse receding gums you need to take CO-Q10, Green Tea, Pomegranite juice. Is there anything else that needs to be added? Have you allso heard about something call Peri gel/oil that is also supposed to help. I suspect that I may also have receding gums. I don't want to go to the dentist because all they do is make you have x-rays which I certainly want to avoid.
Is there also anything natural that can reverse tooth decay and cavities? I too really believe that there is a huge connection between one's health and gum condition as well as hair. Much appreciated?

Grateful

Grateful - Yes, actually the basic regimen, including Vitamin D, Green Tea, Co-Q10, Vitamin K2, etc. Taken long enough, teeth can remineralize and gums can be repaired. The mechanism between hair and teeth and gums are actually pretty similar. They involve bone morphogenetic proteins, Matrix metallopeptidase and their inhibitors.

Vitamin K2 properly regulates where calcium goes, vitamin D also regulates this. The rest curb inflammation that stimulates erosion of the gum line.

The mineral Strontium could be added also.

Thanks heaps IH. Luckily, I take most of the supplements you mention. Also, do oil pulling by the way, where I swish sesame oil around my mouth for 15 minutes each day - supposed to help with detox and mainatining gum health.

Grateful

The eye doc i saw, who I believe is top-notch, said that Astaxanthin is the best supplement to avoid macular degeneration. He said I shouldn't perceive an effect, but it is very effective and worthwhile in the long term.
