What would be better and why? Is the sugar in most fruits easier for the body to 'use'? Is it easier on intestinal tight junction? Does it tend to spike sugar? It is even safe to have a 3 course meal and cut out a potato and supplement an orange or banana? How does this affect hair?

Yes, that's why my vote is for fruits!

Not sure if I'm imagining it but I feel much happier in general when I increased carbs from fruit.

I believe in a starch based diet. Our bodies are made to run on glucose, not fructose. A study found that 40% of the fructose eaten went strait to triglicerides (fat storage) in the body, while only 1% of glucose went to triglicerides. Also, fruits don't do much for satiety, I can eat fruit all day but unless you throw in a potato or something I will not get full.
