Starch and Yeast/Candida - Help Needed
I know I shouldnt be eating refined starches and sugars, but I cannot give it up fully and some days when I do consume things like white rice, I notice that my beard area is extremely itchy and gets inflamed when I scratch (the problem is exacerbated when I eat starches but it is always there and I mostly feel it at night). Also I notice that there are often small white scales there at the root of thehair (i dont think its dandruff because I have used anti-dandruff topicals on it and they dont do much, like tea tree oil, etc.). I also should mention that my beard hair falls out quite easily upon scratching or combing (they arent thin, but just sort of comes out easily).
Anyways I was wondering what I can take internally when I do consume starchy meals (and also otherwise) to deal with this itch/flaking/inflammation. Sorry for my ignorance but is this candida/yeast which is feeding on the starch?
On another note, IH what are your views on Manganese supplementation for hair loss? Can a 10-20 mg dose per day of manganese be harmful? Is there any way to tell whether you are deficient in manganese or zinc - what test would be ideal to test for these imbalances/deficiencies (such as zinc, magnesium, manganese, copper, etc?) and also fairly cost effective because most tests I checked with naturopaths, etc. are around at least $300-500!
Thanks!

Re: Starch and Yeast/Candida - Help Needed
edci - I think that amount of Manganese is too high. A safer level is 5 milligrams. Less is fine too, especially if it is organically bound or with a complex of natural constituents.
If you take a steady stream of high quality minerals on a regular basis, see if that clears up any problem before resorting to elaborate tests.
For example, this blend here below does not contain very high amounts--but it is in a form that the body can recognize and use so much better than traditional synthetic isolates that it greatly magnifies the value even more mega-potency formulas.

Re: Starch and Yeast/Candida - Help Needed
Thanks for the response IH!
Any thoughts about my first question - ie, what can I take internally when I do consume starchy meals (and also otherwise) to deal with this itch/flaking/inflammation, to counteract the effects of starches so that they dont exacerbate the candida?
(is the NOW candida clear any good?)

edci - When consuming starches, you might try probiotics such as either Dr. Ohirra's Probiotic 12 Plus. I'm quite fond of Jarrow's EPS which I have been using mostly, it is also cheaper.
This is prevent the inflammation associated with the starches--see if it works for you. It's a hit or miss.

You might also try eating fruit instead of starches to see if that satiates your desire for sugar.

Candida clear, is that the one from swanson's with the black walnut and other stuff in it that smells really good? I went through a bottle of that taking about 3 a day, and taking 6 capsuls of niacinimide, and I was able to pass the candida test. Also, during that time I donated blood so I think that might of helped me pass it (because candida also feed off of iron and other heavy metals in your body)
