List of Foods good for Hair
I know that through reading the site, you can find a ton of foods to avoid for healthy hair, and since there are alot, I figured, why not make a list of foods that are good for hair, so we know what to eat, rather than what not to eat.
I'll start:
Yams
Grass Fed Beef

I just want to point out that meat isn't for everyone. Personally, focusing on detox has been the best assist, which required dropping meat. Personally, I hit a wall that I couldn't surmount until I dropped meat and focused on detox. This product has helped a lot:

This one is very good for a detox diet, as well, but the former plays much nicer with my system:

For me, its more productive to look at what foods to avoid--
Gluten containing grains, industrial vegetable oils, sugar (especially HFCS)

Good list so far.. after a few more posts, I'll make a post with all of the foods so far, and try and categorize them into food groups. This is really helpful guys, thanks!

Some foods that are mentioned may not be suitable for people with oxalate issues.

i second tooyoung. i think if a list is to be compiled, the reasons each food is good should be discussed as well as the negatives it can hold. might end u[ being a pretty long thread

Iherb is disappointing to me ever since they reduced their VIP discounts.
Before, I never would have shopped around. Now I do.
I found the Ultimate Meal on Amazon for $45 shipped. ($10 less than Iherb).

scotty,
I agree. In general, I dislike iherb. I have had problems with their customer service and shipping seems to generally take an extra day since orders don't always go out same day like they used to. Since the company is just corporate scumlords, there's no reason for loyalty with them. The only reason to shop there is for any advantage they offer, which is few.
That said, if you get the chance, check out PteroMax. It's the best supplement I have ever taken. It can replace every other anti-oxidant. It's that effective.

Re: List of Foods good for Hair
My diet is
avacado for breakfast, 1tbsp olive oil
for lunch pumpkin/sunflower seeds if im hungry, if not, nothing
for tea, 4 eggs, the sunflower/pumpkin seed I didn't eat, brown rice, salmon or steak then some veggies like broccoli, cabbage or cauliflower. 1 tbsp olive oil.
Involves fasting, calorie restriction, low carb and almost all low oxalate (with the seeds being medium oxalates.)
Anything comment on this diet? Anything I could add or alter?

Too Young,
Seems like a lack of calories to me. You can achieve many of the benefits of calorie restriction through intermittent fasting and restriction of carbs.
Muscle is medicine! Muscle can increase insulin sensitivity and more lean body mass is also associated with a longer life span.

The best person to judge your diet is you. I guess the main question i would ask is how is inflammation. Most people eat themselves into an inflamed state. The simplest hair friendly diet I have used to date is:
The ultimate meal and Pea protein combined as a staple. Pea protein is the only alkaline protein that I have encountered and it is effective for maintaining muscle. This combo should bring you to an non-inflamed state; it will dramaticly lower blood sugar as well. There may be some nasty detox at first, but it passes. Then it is easy to judge what foods are good and bad for snacks. The nice thing is once you start feeling really good cravings disappear. Most of the foods on your list look good. My only note is that sunflower seeds are considered estrogenic--the bad kind--and IMO all meat leads to an acidic state, even fish.

MilBA - Yeah calories is one thing I'm concerned about, that diets about 1700, can you recommend any hair friendly, high calorie foods?
Gibson - Inflammation seems reduced but not fully gone, only been on the diet a very short time at the moment. What's the ultimate meal and pea protein?
isis - cooked, but for a short amount of time, mostly still runny.
Anyone know any hair friendly, filling foods?

Re: List of Foods good for Hair
Other than what you are currently eating, I would add virgin coconut oil.
Adding more high quality fats will definitely add some calories, and just eating slightly bigger portions or until you are full...you don't want to be in a chronic state of hunger.
Also check out The Perfect Health Diet...http://perfecthealthdiet.com/. Its focus is on minimizing toxins, which seems to be the type of diet you are aiming for...
cheers

Re: List of Foods good for Hair
Thanks for the link Milba, can't afford to buy the book at the moment though.
Which animal fats would you suggest, could I opt for bacon?
CS - Back in 2009 you said about bacon and its additives.
"Nitrates and nitrites are not the villain they have been made out to be. To some extent play a hand in generating nitric oxide not a bad thing."
"The issue about nitrites is not really proven but yet the belief has spread like wildfire over the years. The health authorities fail to mention that nitrites are not the only found in hot dogs, hams and bacon. They are also naturally occurring in fruits, vegetables, and in some meats. Yes for a while, nitrites were linked to forms of cancer, but it turns out the evidence is extremely weak."
Is this still true or is there any new negative evidence and studies?

Re: List of Foods good for Hair
My current diet
Breakfast:
Rolled oats with a tablespoon of cocoa powder and 1/2 diced banana, 1/4th cup of almonds or walnuts, teaspoon of flaxseeds, 900 mg of krill oil
Lunch:
Wild-caught salmon or grass-fed beef, raw broccoli, and sometimes potatoes (boiled), curc/res supplement
Dinner:
Massive amounts of raw vegetables (carrots, celery, lettuce, kale, spinach) with organic butter (for absorption of fat-soluble vitamins in the vegetables) or ACV, red/black beans.
Sometimes: hard-boiled eggs, feta cheese, little bit of roasted chicken.
Lots of green tea between meals.
Some questions/observations:
At the university store I recently found organic cheese made from raw milk. On other threads it's been stated that hard cheeses should be avoided. But would it be alright to consume cheese made from raw milk? The package says that the milk was aged for a minimum of 60 days.
The limited amount of research I've done has given me a feeling that prostaglandin imbalance is a huge factor in hair loss. As most of us know, the traditional western diet has an over-abundance of omega-6 fatty acids. So I've tried to organize my diet to achieve a better balance of omega3/omega6. The only foods that I've listed above that contain appreciable amounts of omega-6 are the almonds, walnuts, oatmeal, and blackbeans. The amount of omega-6 from these foods is hopefully balanced out by the omega-3 I get from flaxseeds, salmon, walnuts, and krill oil.
Also, I occasionally eat at Chipotle. Surprisingly, all meat used by this restaurant chain is naturally raised. So I get the steak bowl (I avoid the tortillas, since these are made from corn) and instead of rice I ask them to put in extra beans. They add soybean oil to their rice mixture.

Re: List of Foods good for Hair
too young- From what I've read grass fed beef and fatty fish would be the best bet. Poultry tends to have a higher omega 6 - omega 3 ratio, so it would probably be smart to take it easy on chicken.
CS would know better than myself, but I haven't come across anything that nitrates are particularly harmful. So I would say bacon is fine.
