OT - Best Protein Bar
Does anybody have any suggestions on a good protein bar?
Ideally it would:
Be Low Carb
Contain Healthy Fats
Have No Soy Isolate
Have No Artifical Sweeteners
Thanks!

Re: OT - Best Protein Bar
Scotty,
I'm really loving the Think Thin bars. It's a high-protein, sugar-free, wheat/gluten-free bar. I think it's also organic. It has carbs in it, but I'm not as concerned with going low carb as I was in the past as I've been doing an insulin resistance diet where you can have carbs as long as you link them with protein. It's working well for me. I think it's like 20g's of protein to 20g's of carbs, but no sugars in those carbs.

Re: OT - Best Protein Bar
hadrion - I've ready sketchy stuff about soy.
Examples:
•One of the major side effects of soy is that it is believed to be associated with thyroid diseases. Soy contain a substance known as goitrogens which suppresses the function of thyroid, resulting in thyroid diseases.
•Secondly, soy protein contains isoflavones which is believed to be a carcinogen, i.e., cancer causing agent which can give rise to cancer.
•Another hydrolyzed soy protein side effects is that it is believed to reduce the levels of testosterone in males. It is also believed to lead to an imbalance in the estrogen-testosterone levels in men.
•On the other hand, soy protein is also claimed to decrease sperm count in males. Men consuming soy have a lesser sperm concentration as compared to those not consuming it.
•Lastly, one of the major soy protein or soy milk side effects in human beings is that it is believed to affect memory, leading to memory loss and forgetfulness.

Re: OT - Best Protein Bar
The best protein bar is a homemade one,
6-8 scoops of chocolate protein powder ( I use sun warrior)
1 cup of oatmeal (wheat free)
1/3 cup of almond butter
3 table spoons of honey or stevia (tried stevia it has a bitter aftertaste so I'm gonna opt for some raw honey)
1/2 cup of almond milk ( vanilla or chocolate)
3 table spoons of crush almonds, or cocoa, coconut
Forms about 5 bars, place in fridge for 30mins, I sometimes put them in the freezer a d they have a nice texture when you eat them right away.
Thats way cheeper then spending 4 bucks on a protein bar filled with extras, and sugar

Scotty- I think Nutiva.com has some pretty good protein bars made out of hemp. Have not tried but the ingredients are organic.
