O/T Can I Cure My Sister's PCOS?
My 16 year old sister was diagnosed with Polycystic Overy Syndrome (PCOS) at least a year ago. Is this possible to cure? I heard Lugol's solution can do this, is this true? Can I have details please?

goten574 - Yes, it can be helped, and possibly cured also.
High dose lugol's solution, bio-identical progesterone cream (and other bio-identical hormones), see a physician who is familiar with hormone testing and balance to prescribe exactly the proportion that is needed. Avoid synthetics completely.
Avoid 'treatments' like Metformin, and other diabetic drugs.
Magnesium and other important minerals like chromium, vanadium (Vanadyl Sulfate).
The Top 6 (will take care of the blood sugar problem, inflammation and free-radicals). Optimize Vitamin D levels range between 70 ng/mL to 90 ng/mL
There is an increased prevalence of Helicobacter pylori found in PCOS. Translation, sulforaphane would be a good idea.
A good probiotic
D-chiro-inositol
Increase consumption of raw nuts and seeds: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21157477

Oh yeah, sorry - no I don't subscribe to Metformin or any other synthetic, and-made drug or hormone to recover from PCOS--I see that one link (Mary's PCOS) lists those types of drugs as 5-star treatments for PCOS. I was mainly pointing out that there are natural supplements that can help, and she ranked them for us.

Re: O/T Can I Cure My Sister's PCOS?
Thanks all for the links and information. Unfortunately, my sister is 16 with no job and hardly any money... she is really on a tight budget. Not to mention that the tests CS mentioned wouldn't be available on the NHS so that's more money she has not got to get tested privately. If you could recommend one or two cheap things/supplements to take, what would those be? She also has very weak, thin fingernails, perhaps this is linked with the PCOS? maybe a simple definency is B Vitamins is the cause for both the PCOS and weak fingernails?
Thanks!
Thanks!

goten574 - Natural progesterone cream OTC, use following directions for menstruating women (typically use 12 to 13 days following the first day of flow), 1/2 tsp twice per day (can increase the dose if desired). High-dose Lugol's solution.

About the Lugol's, How often each day and how many drops? How long for? Is Selenium needed also? So she continues both these products until symptoms start to disappear?

Excellent link... thanks!
I cannot find any 1000mg of progesterone cream per ounce on iHerb, only 500mg. Will this do? You say 50 Milligrams per day of iodine/iodide but how long must she keep this up? Is Selenium needed for this?
