Psoriasis? Ideas?
Hey everyone.
I respect many of your opinions/knowledge here especially in regards to hair loss. I truly, personally feel that I am at least putting up a strong battle. And after hearing of my good friend's serious Psoriasis issues, I couldn't help but think of you guys.
I'm not sure how aware you are of Psoriasis and what all it entails...but he is desperate. After many doctors prescribing everything from cortisone (of course), antibiotics to even anti-acid medication, I feel an immediate concern as to his care. I personally feel that there is some sort of immune, possible thyroid imbalance going on here. After reading a bit about Psoriasis and it's apparent lack of cure, I thought I'd ask for help. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge that could lead me in the right direction. I'm at a loss. As more info: he has serious breakouts that sometimes prohibit movement without having pain/discomfort that causes bleeding from scaly/broken out skin. Thus far, I suggested that he takes note of both diet/behavior (stress/movement) that could be influencing a break out. Thanks ahead, any hope/ideas are greatly appreciated,
Eric

EricBee - On the following link, check out the importance of bile. This is in case he has any problems with bile production, release, or any gallbladder congestion or a lack of presence of a gallbladder. This is relevant to psoriasis because many sufferers often have a problem here. Without enough bile, pathogens which are eliminated with bile are allow to cause problems.

Also, the treatment he is receiving is probably the opposite what is needed. H. Pylori is implicated in psoriasis.

Destroying stomach acid (blocking) perpetuates an "acid" problem.

95% of those tested have low stomach acid, not too much. Take a betaine HCL tablet with a protein meal, and add to them each time until there is a warm sensation in the stomach to determine the amount of Betaine HCL (acid) needed to overcome the stomach acid deficiency that is probably happening.
H. Pylori "sucks" stomach acid. Correcting this problem may also help psoriasis.
Finally, Zinc, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin A and C are usually very low in these sufferers.

Once again you prove your awesomeness CS...
I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate your info. I will compile the info and pass it along. I'll be sure to let you know how things are after awhile as well. On a side note, I can't help but constantly be amazed at how so much of our health/problems start with the stomach/digestion. After a little bit more research I have also found there to be a link between an overgrowth of candida and Psyrosis.
Thanks again CS

Re: Psoriasis? Ideas?
EricBee - I totally agree, digestive health is incredibly underestimated. Some of it is quite complex, and there are some areas that research is still a ways away from totally grasping.

Re: Psoriasis? Ideas?
You might have your friend try a gluten-free diet. There are some case studies back in 2000 and 2003 that confirmed a GFD reduced symptoms of psoriasis.
Psoriasis patients with antibodies to gliadin can be improved by a gluten-free diet
Rapid Regression of Psoriasis in a Coeliac Patient after Gluten-Free Diet
Celiac disease-associated antibodies in patients with psoriasis and correlation with HLA Cw6

tonyj-
Thanks for those links, I'll send them to him. I did ask him earlier about a Gluten free diet (first thing that came to mind). He said he had tried that, but after asking him how long...he wasn't even sure. Which leads me to believe he either put little effort/accuracy into it, or maybe there was a lot of cheating.
For whatever it's worth, he was on Probiotics for awhile to counterbalance the fact that he was taking Doxicycline and Allegra forever. He's still taking Allegra apparently. It also seems that when he has a bad episode, they put him on Prednisone for 2 weeks. I wish I knew more about these drugs and how to suggest counteracting their obviously not working effects. Also after suggesting a metal detox, he said he had tried that and had a lot of skin irritation. I'm assuming that is because of how metal can leave the body through the skin? I'm hoping to convince him to rough it out for at least a month so his body can heal. With a psoriasis breakout, there seems to be a large concern of major skin infection resulting in serious problems. When things get bad, he has to resort to the meds. Vicious.
