how healthy/bad is unconverted ALA?

from flax, walnuts etc. I've read two things that it's just normal useless fat and another that ALA that isn't converted to EPA and DHA can cause inflammation and other problems?

bathier, I think you are referring to some studies saying omega ALA can cause prostate cancer?

A set subset of the population has some difficulty, but it can be remedied with magnesium, zinc and B6.
Note that flax has a very high Omega-3 content, which is not healthy long term. Omega-6 has very powerful anti-inflammatory properties, and when combined with iodine are especially potent against cancer.
