I have ACL surgery coming up in a few weeks. Cadaver donor ACLs have become the standard and it is being strongly recommended to me by my surgeon because of the ease of surgery and quicker recovery. The documentation I received says that the chance of infection from the donor is 1 in 1 million, but the idea of having someone else's ACL grafted onto my leg just seems crazy to me.

Local anesthesia is the standard, but a spinal/epidural is an option. I've never been under general anesthesia and am a bit worried because a) I have slightly high blood pressure and am not on any meds. My pressure varies depending on my stress level. Sometimes it's a normal 120/70, but I've seen it as high as 145/90. It generally ranges around 135/80 though. b) I had a bout of lightheadedness/brain fog over the last month and a half (finally going away now) due to a chlorella detox (or allergic reaction). So, the idea of being knocked out kind-of freaks me out right now. At the same time, I don't like the idea of having someone stick a needle in my spine...

Thoughts?

Never had the surgery for it I currently have 2 torn ACLs. I am terrifed of being put under general anethesia, but if it is local definately worth considering, since I play sports but not to the same quality.

Any thoughts about cadaver vs. hamstring or patella tendon? I'm concerned about disease transmission and/or rejection and immune markers.

Also, any thoughts on anesthesia or epidural?

I meet with the surgeon today. Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

I would do the dead cadaver....I don't think its a big deal at all. Why take something from your body and put it somewhere else. I am not that educated on the subject, but I doubt the pateller tendon grows back? I have two torn ACL, never had surgery I want to, but I am terrified to go under general anethesia....they do local now?

The place I'm going to can do an epidural, which is not local. It still has some risks.

My biggest worry is disease transmission/donor infection. They say it's rare, but it just seems completely unnatural and unecessary to have a dead person's body part inside of you. I can deal with the extra recovery time.
