Re: Immortal Hair (Ortho Nutrition) Supplement Line [How to Order]
I can't find any evidence of that claim (about resveratrol)
You could certainly take zinc with Beta Sitosterol. Zinc inhibits 5-AR, and it also raises T, it's a good thing.

Taste can change, I even like iosol now
Thanks for the info about zinc! Are there other dht/5-AR inhibitors that don't cause problems like lowering testosterone etc.(as with beta-sit)?

That's why we use trans-resveratrol 99% in the Antioxidant Boost formulation; better to spend a few extra bucks and filter out all the garbage in my opinion!

Hey nid, CS
I started taking your krill oil and getting fishy burps...didn't have them with the ones from now foods. It's not a big problem however.....
I also wanted to ask, how much iosol one can absorb at a time? Best thanks!

Re: Immortal Hair (Ortho Nutrition) Supplement Line [How to Order]
pancacke - How much Iosol can be absorbed at one time? Impossible to say because its absorption will vary in everyone. Also, there are co-factors involved sometimes in some cases (B2, B3).

Give me some value to work with 10 drops? 20?
Do you suggest to take B2/3 with iosol at the same time?
Thank you!

pancacke - Generally, 6 to 10 drops per day (or more) is fine.

Oh, I meant how much drops at once? Like if I take 28 drops a day, I clearly shouldn't take all at once.....
By the way, could you tell me the reason why you prefer iosol over other forms?
Appreciate your support!

Re: Immortal Hair (Ortho Nutrition) Supplement Line [How to Order]
pancacke - I prefer Lugol's the most, but it seems that overall most seem to tolerate Iosol best. I find that Lugol's is the most concentrated and it contains both iodide and iodine. Iosol contains iodide, but is also converted to iodine with enough vitamin C.
Lugol's (5%) contains 12.5 mg per two drops. Iosol is only 1.8 mg per drop. Iosol's taste is not quite as harsh.
I'm not aware of any advantage of dividing the doses up in a day. I have tried lots at a time or in two separate times, but it's probably not much of a difference.

Re: Immortal Hair (Ortho Nutrition) Supplement Line [How to Order]
Ahhhh, and I try like crazy to avoid vitC when taking iosol
I asked because I read few times that lugols has a nearly optimal balance of iodine/iodide.
Harsher than iosol I got acustomed but it's still pretty strong!
Taking it once per day is more convinient for me anyway, there might be a problem with the huge water intake that goes with it.....
Final question, as I'm working up continually, how do I know when I reached my limit? Any physical harm to expect when overdosing consistently?
Off to sleep now, thanks again!

Re: Immortal Hair (Ortho Nutrition) Supplement Line [How to Order]
pancacke - I should mention that Iosol also contains iodine (as well as Iodide), but would not worry about the vitamin C, because the body will convert it as needed, not as an absolute.
The whole body can hold some 1,500 mg of iodine, the thyroid holds 50 mg. Prostate and breast tissue have a high demand for it, as well as all tissue. To reach full saturation takes a long time, because there is an epidemic of iodine deficiency going around. No worries on overdosing.
Potential side-effects are from the halides and other metals that are pulled out (if these occur), and salt loading along with vitamin C will help reduce the potential sides during the initial loading stages.
In the USA alone iodine levels have fallen 50% over the last three-decades.
About 96% of people tested are found to be iodine deficient. If one is concerned about their levels, they can order an iodine loading test.

Re: Immortal Hair (Ortho Nutrition) Supplement Line [How to Order]
CS - Is there any detox reaction with the top 3? I've got worse scalp inflammation than before and I was up half the night unable to sleep because I thought I was going to be sick.
Diet is much better, generally eggs, meats, veggies and a little bit of fish.

Re: Immortal Hair (Ortho Nutrition) Supplement Line [How to Order]
Thanks CS,
It's really laughable when you look at the recommended dose given by mainstream medicine xD
I would have some sski http://www.tahomadispensary.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=110067!162 but no need to add this to the iosol in your opinion!? Originally bought it for topical application....

Re: Immortal Hair (Ortho Nutrition) Supplement Line [How to Order]
tooyoung - Yes there is a detox reaction. It can last a few weeks usually, but it should get less and less after a period.
pancacke - SSKI is a very high dose of potassium iodide. I would not recommend adding this to Iosol. Iosol already contains both iodine and iodide.
However, you can certainly try it topically, and it will penetrate better when used with DMSO. This combination has been shown to breakdown fibrosis, and is used in such disorders.

What supps can I take thats safe for the young and can put up a good fight against hair loss?
These mentions you quoted came from a source with no substantiation and I recall they were an opinion without any evidence.
As far as Beta-sitosterol, the dose makes all the difference, just keep it under 100 mg per day. 50 mg twice per day is even safer.
Consider that an avocado contains up to 100 milligrams of the stuff.
CausticSymmetry wrote:tooyoung - Just based on my body weight, the upper dose in that study would be 450 mg per day for me, which from personal experience would definitely cause problems.
The study points out that in the higher dose levels there are problems 5 mg per kg of body weight). I believe that if you exceed 100 mg per dose, that is where you run the risk of side-effects.
pancacke - There are no studies to rely on which tell me the upper safe limit for alpha lipoic acid or Stablilized R-Lipoic acid, and while there is short term benefits from high-dose for liver diseases, etc, taking the doses mentioned earlier are effective enough for many purposes.
If you experience any unusual effects from iodine, it is often indicative of bromide or other metals being pulled out. You could try salt loading to help decrease symptoms of this.
CS , what brand of Beta-sis u recommend ? I think most of the brands at iherb are high dose , since I weigh about 56 kg what is the recommended dose ?
thank you

Re: Immortal Hair (Ortho Nutrition) Supplement Line [How to Order]
CS,
I'm currently taking 10 drops of iosol but haven't had any reaction yet. I'm worried I don't absorb it well, so wanted you to ask if there is another way to test my ability to absorb besides the iodine loading test?
On a side note, I'm using only selenium(from your regimen) as cofactor...

Re: Immortal Hair (Ortho Nutrition) Supplement Line [How to Order]
pancacke - Yes you can.
Regarding iodine absorption. If there's any doubt, in some users iodine is dependent on co-factors, such as Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) and Niacin (B3). However, this is usually in the case of a person with a disease, such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, etc.
General use of iodine is best with vitamin C and Magnesium (and of course Selenium).
Iodine may not necessary provide any noticeable effect.

Hey CS, could you please elaborate on this? Would love to hear your opinion on some common causes of these issues.

Re: Immortal Hair (Ortho Nutrition) Supplement Line [How to Order]
action<reaction - Chronic fatigue and Fibromyalgia are frequently multifactorial, meaning that is caused a myriad of problems, that essential overwhelms the body.
The thyroid is almost always compromised in these conditions, and quite frequently oral pathology is one of the major contributors to the disease, if not the strongest.
Regarding the organification of iodine. In order for iodine to work in the cell, it requires ATP, and in some patients, especially those with CFIDS or Fibromyagia who have depressed energy levels, the iodine may not work in a subset of patients unless they take orthomolecular doses of B2 and B3.
