UPDATE: The Future of Ortho Nutrition & Hair Evo going into the new year...
Well, it's been a while since we've done anything new or fresh with the Ortho Nutrition product line publicly, but privately we've been doing a lot...reinvesting profits into new stuff, and improvements on current products. Here is an update of things to come:
New products:
Thyroid Boost
This is an organic source of iodine, that has all of the co-factors that you could possibly hope for. A reliable organic source of iodine that would give us what we truly need in terms of iodine supplementation a day has been something on the agenda for a while...problem is, getting it in the form of a capsule was hard to find. Fortunately, that is no longer the case. Over the last 2 years, people have either responded well to synthetic iodine (see: Lugol's Solution) or not at all, perhaps because of the lack of co-factors. Seeing as how iodine is such an integral component of hormonal health which ultimately translates into hair loss benefit, it was obvious that something had to be done in this area.
Thyroid Boost should finally put the iodine issue to rest.
Libido Boost
This is bought per pill, or in packs of 3. It's essentially "natural viagra", except instead of giving you an erection that may last forever, it works moreso to help you maintain an erection when you're aroused and to also increase sexual desire. I don't have a particular problem in this area personally, but will say that it's a great "bone-us" with the lady.
More information on both Boost products in a month or so...
Upgraded products...
Antioxidant Boost
Antioxidant Boost will now feature pharmaceutical-grade Quercetin (95% purity) and Sulforaphane (2%) instead of (1%). Additionally, the amount of Sulforaphane is increased by 100%. Why we made these changes:
- Quercetin has a "hidden" synergy with Resveratrol that is evident in red wine. This should augment the efficacy of the resveratrol, and the quercetin as well...
- ImmortalHair didn't feel that Sulforaphane in the current quantity in Antioxidant Boost was enough of a daily value. So, he recommended we double it to get it in line with BroccoMax. We were able to not only do that, but find a better supplier that had a 2% extract, meaning we've actually quadrupled the amount of sulforaphane found in Antioxidant Boost in its current form.
Combined, these should give a very potent direct and indirect antioxidant "boost".
Decalcify
Decalcify will have the following removed:
- Zinc Orotate
- Boron
It will have an incredibly effective ingredient added that we will elaborate on within a month or so. It's been the goal to get this into Decalcify for over a year, but the cost was prohibitive for us for quite some time... This provides Decalcify with an incredible decalcification agent to support the Magnesium/Potassium Orotate and Vitamin K2 (MK4) and (MK7). Additionally, it also doubles as a potent anti-inflammatory.
RejuvePlex
Nothing major will change with RejuvePlex, however, we will be making an excellent addition or two to the formula that can specifically offer increased micro-circulation and regrowth. More on this in early 2013.
HairEvo
Right now, it's only a store with the occasional article...we're going to be working on turning it a full-blown user-driven hair loss site that will attempt to put together all of the pieces of puzzles that have been laid out over the years on this forum. It is a monumental project, but it will be incredibly beneficial for all of us. Best part is, everyone will be able to contribute if they wish!

Why did you remove zinc and boron?

Re: UPDATE: The Future of Ortho Nutrition & Hair Evo going into the new year...
In regards to antioxidant boost, will you still be using curcumin bcm 95? I remember IH saying the meriva curcumin with phosphatidylcholine was a bit better. Will the quercetin contain phosphatidylcholine like the mrm version in the regimen?
Also wouldn't mind seeing a high does multivitamin supplement, such as 10,000iu A, 5,000iu D, 1g C, E or tocotreinols, B vitamins. Maybe add selenium to decalcify for a compete multimineral.

tooyoung--
Two reasons for removing the zinc...
1) We needed to free up space in the capsule for the new active [primary reason]
2) Zinc doesn't contribute to decalcification, and was put in largely for a "ZMA" affect (Zinc + Magnesium) [secondary reason]
This also opens up the door for a very cost-effective mixed-forms zinc supplement down the road which I'm of the opinion is the best way to supplement on zinc.
Why we removed the Boron...
This has to do with the new ingredient, but I want to do a whole write-up on that when it's closer to release. Wouldn't be able to do it justice in a small post.
j87x--
Have spoken to CS about this a few times (phospholipid-bound), but here is the argument against. All of the studies out there that have shown the beneficial effects of quercetin and curcumin are typically using the standard stuff (no phospholipids). While the phospholipids do increase blood serum levels, we need to re-frame the questions that we are asking such as, does increased blood serum levels really equate to better results? For example, Curcumin's action is primarily in the GI tract, and that occurs whether it's phospholipid-bound or not. I strongly believe in phospholipids for certain supplements, such as Glutathione and Vitamin C. However, I do not feel that it is necessary for every supplement, and from feedback that I've gotten over the last year and a 1/2 or so on Antioxidant Boost, it definitely seems to be working at some level.
One option is to consume coconut oil with your supplements (1 tbsp). Perhaps even better, melt it and break the capsules open, dump the contents in the oil, mix, then drink. This will bond Medium Chain Triglycerides to the Curcumin, Resveratrol, Quercetin, and Sulforaphane.
That's my thoughts for now on phospholipids--what do you feel?

People have posted that they take curcumin with oils such as pumpkin seed/fish/mct/coconut, to have a similar effect of increasing it in blood serum. I have no idea if it actually does that or not, thoughts?nidhogge wrote:

A quick note, only the type of boron is being removed. So in its place will be a better form that may have more benefits than the previous form.
Regarding the zinc. Besides the space saved, the main reason is that zinc itself has broader physiologic efficacy taken as forms such as gluconate, picolinate.

Yes, there is evidence that suggests this. In fact, just as a practice, I try to incorporate this supplement along with a fatty acid for over all better absorption and synergy.

If you guys are making a natural viagra, you might want to incorporate some ingredients from a supplement called GoldReallas, I hear it gives you a raging hardon for days.

Does that mean with the new antioxidant boost we don't need to buy quercetin separately? It would sure chuck down the amount of pills we take a day. Also, if thyroid boost is organic then can't you go without the co-factors? or do you add that just to benefit the thyroid even more?
Looking forward to the new supplements.

Re: UPDATE: The Future of Ortho Nutrition & Hair Evo going into the new year...
Yes, Antioxidant Boost will contain Quercetin, something that will improve the overall synergy to the formula.
The Thyroid Boost will contain most of the co-factors. The only exceptions are for special needs which only pertain to a very small percentage of the population. In other words, unless one has an organification defect in either the chloride or sodium iodide symporter, Thyroid Boost will provide all the necessary co-factors. So, far less chance of any peculiar sides that are known for iodine only preparations.

To add on to what CS said, Thyroid Boost has only one active, and all of the co-factors are naturally present in this active. It's really an amazing thing!

I second this. Would like to have all the supps which work in synergy in the same pack. As for antioxidant boost. Also mean it for ALA - i'd prefer if ALC was already there or at least possible to buy it seperately. It's pain dosaging it and thinking all over again the same things, before putting it in mouth - if you know what i mean.
What's gonna be in thyroid boost? iodine+cofactors, or also something else, as L-tyroxine/raw thyroid?
Keep it up, like the new directions!

Re: UPDATE: The Future of Ortho Nutrition & Hair Evo going into the new year...
Hi BeeBrox,
Stabilized R-Lipoic Acid can't be put in the same capsule as ALCAR, or else it will destabilize. We'll look into carrying this in the future as it's pretty inexpensive.
As for the multivitamin idea, it sounds good, but is a lot harder in practice. We try to encourage people to get vitamins from whole food or whole food-supplement sources, as your body makes far better use of it than if you get it from synthetically-derived vitamin A, D, etc. Plus, it's very difficult to find someone with the equipment to measure out 10,000 IU of an ingredient and blend it into a formula (that's a VERY tiny amount, about 125 micrograms). Thyroid Boost is one ingredient, and contains just about everything your thyroid can need in a highly absorbable form (including selenium!). We cannot include other ingredients in it, because it's already 3-6 capsules per serving.

Nid, how much selenium do you plan on putting in the Thyroid Boost? I am hoping it's not too much because I have my eye set on a multi by Dr. Mercola and it already has 200 mcg of selenium so if I like his multi I just wouldn't want to have to choose one product over the other.

Hey CF--
It's naturally-occurring selenium, as this (Thyroid Boost) is a full-spectrum whole food that you would be eating. Not a vitamin or mineral. This formula has a lot more benefits as well, including metal chelation. I can't comment on if selenium ought to be supplemented further or not without looking into it a bit more, though.

Sounds great, looking forward to trying the new formulations. I was always a little leery of getting 20 mgs of zinc with every capsule of Decalcify.
Do you have pricing info yet that you wouldn't mind sharing?

Both Decalcify and Boost will go up a bit to offset the new ingredients. Not sure on the Boost yet (nothing huge at all), but the Decalcify we will actually probably take a little loss on by adding this ingredient. I think it [Decalcify] will come in under $19. Currently, it's at $16.49. The results ought to be significantly more profound.
As for the past Zinc, it wasn't actually 20mg of Zinc, but rather, just a few milligrams per capsule. The elemental zinc is what you have to look at, as most of Zinc Orotate is in fact Orotic Acid.
Hope that helps a bit, will have more details in the near future!!

Awesome
Nid and CS,
Keep up the great work guys. Super excited about the thyroid addition to the supplement line. An all-inclusive (or at least close to that) thyroid supplement takes a lot of confusion out the puzzle - I think it will help a lot of people trying to address thyroid issues and not be intimidated. The rest of the supplement additions and tweaks sound enticing as well.
I also really can't wait for you guys to ramp up the Hairevo site and get more content loaded in. The whole "connecting the dots" operation, in regards to all the material here will be massively beneficial, especially to newcomers. I mean, we've essentially solved hair loss (future progression at least). Putting all the pieces together in a way that makes sense to the individual in every day life is the real trick. In other words, minimizing intimidation about health "knowledge" and maximizing compliance is key. This seems to be a goal you guys are making more attainable with Hairevo and your contributions here.
I think you guys are running a top notch operation here. It's something truly unique and valuable. I'm sure many here would be willing to help compile info and help out however possible.

Soon, we will include more articles to take some of the mystery out of the puzzle. As many are aware, forums (including this one) are inundated with conflicting information--usually only the important details are missing.

Re: UPDATE: The Future of Ortho Nutrition & Hair Evo going into the new year...
It contains between 1,200 and 1,800 mcg (micrograms) per 3 grams. It's different than taking lugol's or Iosol, because it is akin to a food source (40:1 seaweed concentrate). It contains organically bound iodine and other minerals. So for those people who are reluctant about taking iodine, this is a more conservative approach.
