Aloe vera for inflammation Empty Aloe vera for inflammation

Since I haven't had a chance to get Nizoral cream yet, I have been using some Aloe Vera I had left over from last Summer (lily of the dessert brand) on my scalp and it really seems to kill the inflammation and itching. This is probably one of the few (if not the only) natural topicals I have been able to use that has achieved this. It absorbs really well and does not have alcohol in it, which I really like.

My question is how well does Aloe Vera penetrate the skin, can it reach the follicle level and what benefit might it have for hair loss? I am also wondering if anyone knows of a version of Aloe Vera that has good delivery... I have read that it is an underrated hair loss topical, but then again I have read that about quite a few natural alternatives in the past...

What's the consensus on the board regarding Aloe Vera?

I also use Lilly of the Desert Aloe Vera (Whole Leaf Juice) and it kills any itch my scalp may have and reduces imflammation very well. I love the cooling effect of Aloe Vera.

If my memory serves me right, I believe that the anti-inflammatory effects of the Aloe Vera plant come from beta-sitosterol.

Do you know the concentration of bet-sitosterol in Aloe Vera? Just curious...

Aloe vera contains a good source of essential sugars, as in glycoproteins. It's also an excellent blood sugar stablizer.

This is all internally speaking. Topically I have no experience with it--at least for any significant period. It contains muccopolysaccharides, which may help improve the appearance of hair, but beyond that I'm not so sure.

Caustic,

Would you say that Aloe Vera has a similiar anti-fungal effect as Nizoral does? And what would you say its effect on calcification might be. I am loving it for just the simple reason that it kills my itching and inflammation - this alone makes me think it is of great benefit. I am just wondering how well the Lily of the desert brand penetrates the skin and whether or not it even reaches the follicle level....

Have you ever heard of nanosomal aloe vera or anything similar that could penetrate to the follicle level?

I got an aloe plant I think this is the best cheap topical for inflammation it might have to be fresh though IDK very easy to grow. Anytime I feel inflammation now I tear a little part of a leaf and smear it where I feel it and it's almost instantly cooled, feels great on the scalp and doesn't come back. If there's any acne there it usually goes away pretty quick too. I tried eating/drinking some since I read it can help with insulin and dandruff and it's way too bitter planty tasting yuk Razz

This sounds promising, kinda like natures own ketoconazole! The beta-sitosterol in the Aloe-Vera might bind to the SHBG-receptor like ketoconazole and block estradiol or DHT from attaching! Going to have to try this soon.
