Prostate & General Health
Hello All,
An apology first to all and specifically CS for my behaviour a few months prior. Basically having had a few months off and taking a break from this site, I have been trying to pin point my existing health problems which I think I have kind of figured, although I do have a specialist appointment with a urologist this month.
I started the the top 6 about a month after finishing a low dose 3 month experiment of 0.25mg fin and 150mg soy isoflavons. I believe that in the first 2 months of taking on the the IH top 6 I developed chronic prostatitis from my abuse on my body having used finesteride. Now at the beginning it was negotiable a few chronic periods of needing to urinate once every few weeks, of which i contributed to having perhaps taken too much krill oil or one too many ECE any one of the other supplements i had adopted. What I know believe is that these episodes of needing to urinate and general uncomfortable etc were perhaps linked with sexual and alcohol related activities. Come November I actually tried a low dose 0.125 mg of fin and Maca root 100mg, every 3 days and surprise surprise the symptoms got a lot worse. Now May 2010 and haven't had been taking any fin or Maca for 3 months. My worst point symptomatically was about 2months after stopping. For reference purposes I have and have had all the symptoms described under chronic prostitis.
Obviously I'm still trying to discover the problem via trial and error but I had a few queries to pose to learned minds of this forum:
1. Why am I and more specifically my prostate so badly affected by the taking of finesteride (A drug prescribed to treat prostatitis)
2. Does anyone know why infact a person such as myself suffers from taking any DHT inhibtor (I have tried Green Tea extract and Saw Palmetto with the same effects.
3. Can I assume that the abuse and misuse of finesteride has actually left me with an enlarged prostate that is pressing on my bladder when ever it is irritated thus causing the urgency and symptoms I suffer from?
4. Having presumably done damage to my hormonal axis, would this account for why intense periods at the gym, and presumably raised testosterone also cause relapses of prostatitis (as well as sex and alcohol)
5. Will an enlarged prostate have a severe and detrimental effect on my hair.
6. As I am visiting a specialist what tests should ask to be done?
I am 23 and in the last 6 months visited about 6 doctors (thank the NHS) on numerous times being sent away with all sorts of prescriptions for anti- spasmodic's, anti-biotic, sleeping pills (for the nightly trips to the loo) and many others. In the past 6 months I have also contributed the problem to taking of pro biotic's (jarrow) as I thought this might of introduced a strain of bacteria that could have triggered the prostatitis. I also thought when my symptoms were at their worse that I had in fact damaged my kidneys by taking too many supplements and specifically Vitamin D after a number of the symptoms for vitamin D toxicity matched my poly-urea symptoms.
My symptoms are currently a lot better and I contribute this to avoidance of sex (which I cant do forever!) alcohol and certain foods and activities. And perhaps a gradual correction of my hormones. I currently try to eat a lot of vegetables, fruit, nuts and meat , I avoid milk, caffeine, bread and as much refined food as possible for a socially active 23 y/o but as we all know its difficult. As ever I am still utterly depressed about my continuing hair loss which is laterally diffusing from left temple to the crown. However I have a great girlfriend and am trying to mature/ accept and live life and move past my vain and self loathing ways.
I would love to create a regimen which makes me feel better and let me know mentally that I'm doing the best I can for both my health and hair. Hopefully with your help I can gain insight and information that can help me do this. I feel as if I have read so much conflicting information and as many of my symptoms are characteristic of so many things its hard to gain a grasp on what to do. I admit I am not biologically adept but I'm trying.
Once again I'd like to apologise for my past out bursts, I would like to thank anyone who has taken the time to read my situation (Its rather a monster)
Regards

Re: Prostate & General Health
DesperateIntellect - Just speculation on my part, but if I had to guess, your biochemistry responds counter intuitively to 5-AR blockage. Possibly Reflex Androgenicity?
Whether this is premature benign prostatic hypertrophy or a case of prostatitis, I would suggest a few options for trial and error.
My first suggestion is a product that promotes reconfiguration of cellular organization.
http://www.iherb.com/Allergy-Research-Group-Nutricology-Healthy-Prostate-Ovary-180-Tablets/7792?at=0
Some types of alcohol, especially beer has an estrogenic effect, and it's possible that your individual hormone balance is tilted toward high aromatization. This would explain the negative effects you acquire by 5-AR blockage.
If the above product does not work for your condition, I would suggest prostate massage to reduce the swelling of the prostate. A search will come up with options on ways to do this without assistance.
Finally, if that doesn't work I would recommend frequency specific microcurrent. http://www.frequencyspecific.com/practitioners.htm
The above treatment is almost a "mortal lock" to work, it's that good--but it isn't easy on the wallet either.

Re: Prostate & General Health
I Just did a search for Reflex Androgenicity and found virtually nothing. I also did a search on this site and found just one reference. Am I right in the belief that for individuals that suffer Reflex Androgenicity there is an up regulation in sensitivity to DHT and therefore had I never taken any DHT blockers would be a lot better off? (could you in fact actually set the whole process in motion? If true that's a very scary thought! I will look into the treatments you suggested and now target my main aim to get great health
Any regimen you would suggest with all this in mind?

Re: Prostate & General Health
An after thought:
Would a key area to address be my thyroid and adrenal's considering the stress I have placed upon the body hormonally?
Thank you CS
If anyone has any links to any information I can read up on I'd be very thankful.

Re: Prostate & General Health
A lot of guys get the same effect from DHT inhibitors. Most call it ball ache, but it is actually the prostate, happened to me in my twenties when i tried propecia. I think you you could make a full recovery with nettle root extract (now) and prolobium. A three pronged approach would be adding:
http://www.kokorohealth.com/cgi-bin/datacgi/database.cgi?file=koko&report=sp&ID=007
But I would first try the other two, starting with nettle root extract.
If you have prostatitis, you'll need antibiotics. you may need to double the recommended dose to completely rid the problem. but once it is gone, it should be gone forever, just don't fuck around with propecia.
Also, alcohol isn't a prostate's friend, but a maintenance dose of the above supps should keep things in order. Wine is better than beer. But that may be subjective based on your drink preferences.

Thanks
Thank You Guys for all your responses. Typically as I thought I was recovering 3 weeks without a squeek of a symptom. I had Sex and Wambam thank you mam I'm back to square one, an hour after the act and I feel like something is swollen between my legs and the next 3 days im suffering from the usual urgent bladder symptoms, increased need to go constant discomfort.
I just wanted to know which of my supplements could potentially aggrevate the prostate, further and I should stay away from until I have corrected my hormones.
Borage Oil - Am i right in thinking that perhaps the light DHT inhibitor effect of this could be a antangonist>
Fish Oil - Omega 3 shouldnt be a porblem?
ECE - Could it be a problem for the bladder or Prostate?
Lyseine - ?
Co enzyme Q10 - ?
Kelp -?
Any help would be appreciated, those last 3 weeks were like heaven!

Re: Prostate & General Health
I have only taken a Jarrow EPS capsule today and it maybe a coincidence but my symptoms are at their worst. Are there any possible explanations

Yes DI,
Die off, biofilms being to some degree dissolved, intolerance to certain by products being produced, increased inflammation, etc.
My advice would be, switch to a different probiotic, at least for now:
-Lactobacillus GG (Culturelle)
-Saccharomyces Boulardii (Jarrow brand)
These are antiinflammatory, and unlinke EPS they won't make you feel like crap (*my* own experience). Everyone is different, everyone has a different level of pahtogen infestation. At this point, I might be able to tolerate them. Probably EPS is somewhat harsh for people with considerable dysbiosis.
If you ask me for one probiotic to start with specifically, I would say go for LGG (Culturelle).

Urologist
Ok so I went to the Urologist today and:
They are referring me to a neuro specialist to retrain my bladder! I don't think this is the problem I did a flow test and retaining volume test.
i was able to hold a litre and still had 100ml left after and my flow was off the chart which apparently rules out an enlarged prostate, plus a digital examination said it was fine.
They said my thyroid test came back at 0.86 (NHS, UK) I have no idea what this means and they were reluctant to give me the results too much hassle!.
My PSA was a I was a a third of the national average for my age range apparently again ruling out inflammation of the prostate.
I'm a little baffled, I still think its a hormonal issue as why does it occur after sex and when i work out
Irrititable bladder guys? If I take a lot of supplements together could this be corrosive on the bladder?
I guess im pleased there was nothing majorly wrong that was obvious thus far.

Re: Prostate & General Health
A possible Eureka moment here:
INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS:
I tried an Anti-histamine and I'm symptom free! Now histamine is released in response to mast cells so its an immune problem.
1. Does anyone have any information on this?
2. It began at around the same time I began consuming vast amounts of Supplments could that have irritatatedd qand been the trigger?

1. You can soothe your bladder with a teaspoon of baking soda in water--drink this up to 3 xs a day and follow it with a lot of water. Or, you can try Trisalts--same thing without the sodium--it will alkalinize your urine. I understand marshmallow--the herb--can be soothing to the bladder as well.
2. Absolutely! As I was saying to gotten in another thread here, I had bladder irritation this weekend simply from drinking tea in place of my coffee because I ran out--I think tannic acid is irritating to my bladder. Definitely scrutinize your supplements and foods that could possibly be irritating to your bladder.
Also, the last thing I'm sure you feel like doing is drinking more water, but if your bladder is acting up, that's one of the things you need to do--dilute your urine. 1 oz of water for every 2 lbs of body weight is the minimum amount of water you need to drink daily and more than that if you are experiencing bladder irritation. This is personal, but I'll say it--sex can bring on bladder irritation for me occassionaly--if there's a lot of friction because of not enough lube--irritates the urethra. I'm going to venture to say that possibly sex can cause urethra irritation to susceptible men too but obviously the mechanism would be different. Think water, water, water and tone that bladder and weed out one or two suspected supps for a day or two and see if things don't improve.
