Re: Top supplements for general health?
Unless the fish oil is produced in a nitrogen-flushed system, then it's rancid. Most fish oils are not nitrogen-flushed. Rancid fish oil is of not benefit, and may include some detriments. Additionally, there has been a recent study or two that caught my attention a few months back that demonstrated that fish oils, when taking a few grams, are actually harmful for health. On top of that, because they lack phospholipid-bonds, the EPH and DHA found in Fish Oil is unable to penetrate cell membranes in your body, making it far inferior to Krill Oil.
As for Vitamin D3...this is derived from the sweat off of a sheep's back if memory serves me right. RKDML has posted up a thread recently on why supplementing D3 is not a healthy thing to do...it is a source of much debate, but your best bet is simply to go outside for 10-20 minutes every day, making sure to get some sun (even in cold weather).

As for anti-aging/general health, that is actually how we designed the Ortho Nutrition line, for those purposes primarily. So far, some great results...off the top of my head, Hadrion's mother on this forum was able to get off of all of her meds and her blood pressure and triglycerides are now normalized as a result of using Antioxidant Boost, Krill, and Decalcify for a year or so.

Re: Top supplements for general health?
Best supplements? Those that positively affect the body's ability to regulate its own endogenous and cellular antioxidant activity.
If one imagines vitamin C, it will neutralize one free radical per molecule. However, if one takes supplements such as Ecklonia cava, curcumin, resveratrol, sulforaphane they will have not just the innate antioxidant activity, but also the gene switching that occurs via the Nrf2/ARE pathway, that can cause the termination of millions of free radicals per second.

All of the vitamins and minerals, they are all vital in their different contexts. And most of us are deficient in one or more. And a lot of people don't realize how a deficiency in a vitamin can truly effect multiple aspects of their physiology. Vitamin A deficiency is a good example: it can effect vision, create blurred vision, lower the transition from day to night, potentiate infection, it will weaken the mucous membranes (probably the reason it potentiates infection), creates immune system imbalance and also affects steroid hormone expression. CS and others have pointed out its ability to also balance D. Our bodies are pretty miraculous machines if you give them what they need, so for that reason, the vitamins and minerals. Probably a very obvious choice and a blanket statement.

Wheres the best place to get vitamin A from? Ive looked every where and nobody seems to sell vitamin A apart from random 'vision booster' products that seemed a bit gimmiky for me.

Have you heard of Ageless Male? It’s a dietary supplement that fights off signs of aging which are associated with low testosterone in men, such as reduced sex drive, poor metabolism, and flabby muscles. It contains fenugreek seed extract that raises testosterone and vitamin B6 that increases energy levels and improves muscle tone. Go through its customer reviews for further details.

Anti-aging:
Eat real food
Get adequate sleep (completely dark room, earplugs, sleep grounded, etc)
Mitigate Stress (yoga, meditation, breathing exercises)
Get adequate Vit D from the sun
Get enough Vitamin "N" (spend time out in nature)
Get moderate amounts of exercise and don't sit for extended periods every day
Try intermittent fasting 1-2x per week for 16 hours min
Look into supplements such as resveratrol, ecklonia cava, liposomal glutathione, etc

fenugreek seed extract is a potent testosterone booster. It raises the levels of bioavailable testosterone in the blood and improves energy metabolism and sex drive.j87x wrote:What supplements are recommended for someone not worried about hairloss, just for health/antiaging?

People are wary about using supplemental testosterone. It all depends on what product you’re going to use. No doubt diet and exercise make an unbeatable combination when it comes to maximizing testosterone levels. But some men may need to resort to other ways to increase their T levels, and supplements can prove helpful in certain cases.

Dietary supplements in the form of pills are also a great way to boost testosterone levels in men and help them overcome Andropause.

That is very interesting Immortal, thanks - can you explain this in a little more detail?

Not to put vitamin C down.... but astaxanthin is another awesome antioxidant with the innate ability to saturate tissues and brain cells, crossing the BBB. Being lipid soluble, just the reserves of one dose remain active for long periods of time: reducing DNA damage and inflammation, quenching free radicals etc.

Depends on where you live and your current serum levels. If seriously lacking, higher doses then 10 000 IU /day might be required for a period of a few weeks. If levels are already in tune with current science, you might start at 10 000 IU and lower down to 5 000 IU during summer.Hairbeback wrote:I am going to pick up some vitamin D3 how many IU generally?

If you're a guy, I'd say prostate health should be a top concern. Read Super Beta Prostate supplement reviews. It's a natural and effective prostate supplement that works through beta-sitosterol that supports prostate health and reduces symptoms of enlargement to some degree too. Read up on it because it's one of the few I've found that actually contains other trace minerals as well.
