guys does anyone know If protein powders, weight gainers or amino acid tablets have any negative effects on hairloss ? I haven't been doing any weight lifting since june but I am planning to start again next week. I am going to be using those supplements. Maybe creatine too.

Btw I used all of em before but I wasn't paying any attention If I lost more hair during the times I used em.

Nuada - Usually not, although under certain conditions some nitrogen transporters can have negative effects, but that depends on some variables.

In other words, it should be okay.

thanks for the reply.

I've read in somewhere that while working out, testosterone levels tend to increase, does it have any effect on DHT ?

Nuada - I'm not sure.

Take a look at this study:

Eur J Appl Physiol Occup Physiol. 1985;54(5):494-6.
Androgen levels following a football match.
Lupo C, Baldi L, Bonifazi M, Lodi L, Martelli G, Viti A, Carli G.

In 18 trained football players, blood samples were collected before a football match, at half-time, at the end, and 45 and 90 min after the end of the match. The testosterone (T) level showed a decrease in the rest period. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) increased during the match, but returned to initial levels in the last samples. The T/DHT ratio decreased, reached the minimal value at the end of the exercise, and returned to basal levels in the rest period. Cortisol and androstenedione levels increased during the match, but returned to control levels 45 and 90 min after the end of the match, respectively. It is suggested that during this type of exercise anabolic and catabolic hormones may be simultaneously activated.

As far as having lots of testosterone in generaal, it is very good thing. The cause of aging essentially is a depletion of our hormones.

Typically, aging people have declining efficiencies over glucose metabolism. This is in large part to a declining testosterone level.

More Testosterone = better glucose metabolism. Better glucose metabolism = less DHT.

The more body fat, especially visceral in the abdominal area, the greater the potential conversion from testosterone into estrogen and DHT. High Testosterone help burn visceral fat to prevent this.

Having an high testosterone to cortisol ratio is optimal for hair. Conversely a low testosterone to cortisol ratio is bad for hair.
