Acid Reflux
O.K. so I listened to the advice of taking broco max for my acid relux and it has done nothing to help it. I have also tried apple cider vinegar for 30 days straight with nothing. Every day I wake up my stomach hurts and I cough for atleast 20 min. I can,t stand this anymore. Has anyone ever used DGL Licorice or any other ideas that might work. I only get this in the morning. Thankx.

Re: Acid Reflux
xyztrace - There was a study conducted in 2001, comparing a drug to a natural formula. A Dr. Pereira found the following regimen had a 100% success rate when used long enough.
Melatonin at 6 mg per day, 200 mg of L-tryptophan, Vitamin B6 at 25 mg, folic acid, at 10 mg, vitamin
B12 at 50 mcg, methoinine at 100 mg and 100 mg of betaine daily.
DGL is very useful for quick relief.
It's important to note that some have an allergy to wheat (gluten) and this can often be a source of gastric distress.

Re: Acid Reflux
O.K. then will this repair my problem or will I need to keep taking those pills for the rest of my life.
That is if removing gluten does not work. Thankx.

Re: Acid Reflux
xyztrace - Fortunately, you would not need to take this formula indefinitely.
There are a few different considerations, depending upon the cause. It could be H. Pylori overgrowth, or a restriction pyloric valve sphincture (the melatonin in the formula helps relax it, allowing the contents to empty more effectively). It could also stem from a bacteria imbalance in the small intestine.
Lastly, it could be related to a possible wheat/gluten intolerance. If this happens to be true, there are certain enzymes that will allow you to have your wheat/gluten and eat it too, since this is quite difficult to avoid for a lot of people.

NAG (glucosamine) will protect against wheat lectins as well. D-mannose protects against other lectins.

Re: Acid Reflux
I saw a combination of folic acid b6 and b12. Can I take that instead of buying all the different ones. It not only saves money, but it is a lot less pills to remember to take. Also is the mg exact or can I go off a little.

I can,t find the bottom 4 of the vitamins. Nobody has the mg. They are to high or something is wrong. I tried Iherb amazon vitabase vitacost.
Folic acid at 10mg is the hardest. It seems like it doesn,t exist.

Re: Acid Reflux
xyztrace - Don't worry about the dosage for the folic acid. Here is a follow-up study. 400 mcg (micrograms is enough).
Melatonin for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Altern Ther Health Med. 2008 Jul-Aug; Werbach MR.
The enterochromaffin cells of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract secrete 400 times as much melatonin as the pineal gland; therefore, it is not surprising that research is finding that this indole plays an important role in GI functioning. In animal studies, it protects against GI ulcerations, and randomized clinical trials suggest its efficacy in treating functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome. Melatonin administration has been shown to protect against esophageal lesions in animals. Moreover, in a randomized, single-blind clinical trial of subjects with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), the combination of melatonin with other natural supplements was found to be superior to omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Its administration as a single treatment for GERD has not been previously reported. A 64-year-old Caucasian female who required treatment with a PPI for symptoms of GERD wished to substitute a natural treatment because of the risk of worsening her osteoporosis. She experienced a return of symptoms following each of three 20-day trials of a proprietary blend of D-limonene when attempts were made to discontinue the PPI. She then underwent a trial of a natural formula consisting of melatonin 6 mg, 5-hydroxytryptophan 100 mg, D,L-methionine 500 mg, betaine 100 mg, L-taurine 50 mg, riboflavin 1.7 mg, vitamin B6 0.8 mg, folic acid 400 microg, and calcium 50 mg. After 40 days, the PPI was withdrawn without a return of symptoms. Subsequently, an attempt to reduce melatonin to 3 mg resulted in symptoms, while all other ingredients were withdrawn with minimal symptoms during 10 months of follow-up.
