Question about diet/supps
IH,
Let's say you have a perfect meal. Baked/broiled salmon. Broccoli. Spinach. No bread, rice, pasta. Only veggie carbs in it.
Do you still need to take ALC/ALA with that kind of meal?

Any meal will stimulate insulin secretion. Carbs the most, protein far less, and fat less than protein. I am not sure, however, that I would describe such a meal as "perfect." Eat that long enough and your metabolism will slow down, you will drop lean tissue like it's your job, you will be hungry all the time, have no energy, no sex drive, and constantly be tempted to binge on problematic foods. Otherwise, it's good.

Re: Question about diet/supps
hadrion - Chances are good we would still want to take it. Here's why. Many of us may have some form of mitochondrial dysfunction. This "defect" makes us more vulnerable to free radicals. Based on animal research, it seems we could be victims of what our parents and their parents ate or what they didn't eat--that's one theory.
Lipoic Acid & Acetyl L-Carnitine have been shown to extend the lives of animals to 30%. I would not be the least bit surprised if this happens to us. This combo help repair DNA and keep the cell factory energy production at a high rate of efficiency, so there's less "errors," more energy is combusted from both glucose products and fat consumption.
But with a perfect meal, less would be needed.
Another factor is metals. A lot of us have some free radical generating metals such as iron. The above combo help deal with this. In addition, the above combo increase our body's potential shortfall of antioxidants, such as Glutathione, Catalase and SOD.

Hadrion - I only take one a meal, but then again I eat 5 meals a day and get more than twice the RDA for calories.
