Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
Not sure how good but I got all my stuff from swanson's for pretty cheap. I settled for a natural Vitamin C with Rose Hips for greater bioavailability.

Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
I purchased these at iherb.
http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Ascorbic-Acid-8-oz-227-g-Powder/413?at=0
http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-L-Lysine-Powder-1-lb-454-g/653?at=0
http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-L-Proline-Powder-4-oz-113-4-g/1394?at=0
There are no additives. I mix the three in a glass of water and drink it. My only problem with what i'm doing is that the ascorbic acid is pretty corrosive on the teeth. I might start putting the ascorbic acid into capsules to deal with this issue. I won't buy vitamin C pre-capsulized though since they usually contain fillers.

Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
I take the same ones as jksl and I also take Amla too. Amla is so I can have a good food source of Vitamin C which if you can afford it, I'd recommend to take so you can have a source of the whole
Vitamin C.
http://www.iherb.com/Paradise-Herbs-Amla-60-Veggie-Caps/4458?at=0
Also, if you can afford it, I'd recommend to add some baking soda to the ascorbic acid to make it alkaline which make it sodium ascorbate or you could buy it as this instead http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Sodium-Ascorbate-8-oz-227-g/795?at=0
The reason why I say if you can afford it is according to vitamincfoundation.org the sodium ascorbate (buffered/high ph) version is half as effective as ascorbic acid (acidic/low ph). In other words, you'll need to take 12,000 mg of sodium ascorbate to reach the 6,000 mg of ascorbic acid in the Pauling Protocol.
The reason for the buffered version is so your body doesn't get become acidic.
CausticSymmetry has brought up Ascorbyl Palmitate before http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Ascorbyl-Palmitate-500-mg-100-Vcaps/407?at=1
Also, keep in mind lysine increases iron absorption. Vitamin C will as well but to a lesser degree. You may want to take avoid taking the Pauling Protocol away from iron containing foods.
hope this helps

Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
I'm actually using the same brands as JDP and JKSL right now as well.
However for Vitamin C I am using a mixture of Vitamin C w/ Rose Hips & the Ascorbyl Palmitate that JDP just posted.
In reference to the Iron, wouldn't taking Curcumin at the same time help to combat some of this? Just curious.

Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
Hey guys,
do you take all of the 3 on empty stomach? As far as i know a.a. are not properly absorbed in presence of food...
3 times per day ,morning, noon, evening? And how much from each?
3 gr of vit.C ,3 gr Lysine ,1,5 gr of Proline is enough ?
Jksl-
How do you measure the proline? The label is kinda vague. It says 2gr Proline in a level teaspoon

I only use 1/8 teaspoon. That should be 250mg. I could use a bit more, i guess, but i'm sticking with 250mg for now. I use about 1g for the lysine and same for the AA. I take this concoction 2 or 3 times a day, usually about 45 minutes before a meal. Even though i'm drinking a bunch of acid, it doesn't bother my stomach at all.

Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
I mix all of this together with a bit of apple juice. 2 grams of Proline and 6 grams of Lysine. I then try to drink this concoction 3 times per day with a bunch of Vitamin C tablets. This way I am getting about 3 approx equal doses throughout the day. I have been taking it shortly before meals but perhaps I need to take it even further away from meals.

Warren mentioned this link in another thread and it might be can easy way to supplement with the Pauling protocol.

Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
hapyman or anyone that can answer,
For the pauling protocol, is it better to take the doses divided through the day or is it ok to take it all at once?

Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
I believe from the information JDP has posted in the other thread it is best to divide the dose between 2 or 3 smaller ones throughout the day. This may be more difficult but supposedly more effective. You are probably less likely to urinate away the excess vitamin C this way as well.
I try to mix all of mine together at the beginning of the day in some apple juice and then drink from the bottle about 3 times throughout the day.

Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
Hi 1....,
Ascorbic acid is just a part of the whole Vitamin C. I'm not sure how true this is but I've heard it mention that if you're suffering from scurvy (caused by a lack of Vitamin C) taking Ascorbic Acid won't cure it. You need the whole Vitamin C molecule.
Interestingly, Prague has mentioned his thoughts about MPB being related to Scleroderma. In Scleroderma, Vitamin C levels are deficient. Supplementing with Amla is just a way of getting the whole Vitamin C molecule just in case Prague is correct.
So to answer your question I use Amla and about 6000 mg of Ascorbic Acid mixed with baking soda to make the ascorbic acid alkaline (i.e. sodium ascorbate).
In the Pauling protocol, you'll want to take in divided doses. I do two to make life easy but three would be prefered.
hope this helps

Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
I just wanted to give an update on topical lysine .... you guys really should try this out!
It is definitely one of the best things I've done for my hair. It appears to stop inflammation dead in it's tracks and works extremely fast ... you should notice a big difference within a couple days. Your hair will feel incredible.
Anyway, for those that don't know as I've told a couple people about it the past month or so just add some lysine in a little bit of water, stir till it disolves and then apply to your hair. Let dry for about 20 - 40 minutes and then take your shower and wash it off. The only downside to this is you have to do this everyday or before every shower (preferable), otherwise, MPB will eventually start to kick in.
Hope this helps

Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
Nice. Thanks for the info. I am definitely going to try this out as it seems really easy. Any reason for rinsing it out 40 minutes after or could you possibly leave something like this in over night?

jdp710 - While thinking about this, it struck me that Lysine has all the makings based on all those posts about inflammatory Nitric Oxide, Viruses, etc.
This sounds like a total winner, I'm ordering this today.

Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
I tried a bunch of Lysine dissolved in some Aloe Vera Juice this morning for about an hour. My scalp felt mildly warm, kind of like a nice soothing, calm sensation. I'm going to try and apply it a couple times a day with a dropper.
Sorry for the repeat question but is there any reason why I would want to rinse it out shortly after applying? My best guess says no but there may be something I am overlooking here.

jdp - can you shed a light on the mechanism of lysine and the idea that made you put lysine on your scalp ?
http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-L-Lysine-Powder-1-lb-454-g/653?at=0 seems good for a topical use ?

Re: Good brands for pauling protocol
Sorry it took so long to get back with you hapyman. But to answer your question there is no reason why you can't leave it on longer than 40 minutes. It was actually a typo on my part. I should have worded it to keep the lysine in your hair for 20 - 40 minutes minimum. If you leave it on longer, there won't be any harm. I've left it in for I'm guessing 2 hours a couple times and there is no harm in doing this.
Oh, as far as putting the lysine in your hair and leaving it in, keep in mind that it would be the equivalent of putting white powder in your hair so it's not anything you want to go outside in.
What I do is put 3/4 of a teaspoon of lysine to just a little bit of water and stir till it dissolves. Once it dries, you'll see a bunch of white powder from the lysine in your hair. I really don't think it's necessary to put it in a carrier oil based on how my scalp feels. Maybe one day I'll experiment but just plain old water and lysine works great!
europe,
I've been trying everything imaginable that could help with hair loss and I've been looking at and posting some information here and there on this forum about bacteria, viruses, etc. and it's relationship to chronic fatigue since CausticSymmetry mentioned it way back in the beginning of the Dkk-1 thread. Anyway, fast forward and after trying many different internals and topicals I came across lysine. Lysine works extremely well for herpes. There is even a patent for this topically. Lysine inhibites arginine, I guess that's the correct term, and thus nitric oxide if I'm not mistaken ... see NO - OHNOO cycle for more info on nitric oxide. BTW, herpes also replicates on the surface of the skin so I figured it was worth a shot to try it.
When I tried topical lysine, it worked great! Nowadays, now that I've looked into why lysine is working, especially since CausticSymmetry brought up the study that DHT increases nitric oxide, I'm starting to believe that maybe this is the reason for the results. Again, see the thread of NO - OHNOO for more info on why nitric oxide can be bad. Also, collagen dissolving enzymes might be inhibited with lysine ... I dunno. Here is some very good info on lysine http://www4.dr-rath-foundation.org/pdf-files/cancer_book.pdf

Oh, I forgot to mention and I doubt it makes a difference but for full disclosure, I used filtered reverse osmosis water and not regular tap water with the lysine.
