Betaine HCL dosage?

I just picked up some Betaine HCL as I've been experiencing stomach issues for some time now which I believe is making me lose hair at an alarming rate.

My questions is, what dosage should I take of Betaine HCL? Each capsule is 500mg and the bottle says to take 1 with each meal. However I was reading back to Little Fighter's posts and he posted an article which said to take a capsule every minute until your stomach is warm. I just took 2 capsules and didn't notice any change... and I'm afraid to take more as I don't want to overdo it.

Also should I be taking something else with it? like a probiotic?

One other thing is that there is 60mg of peppermint also in the capsule.. this a bad thing?

I wouldn't. It might damage your stomach lining. Maybe google betaine overdose and see if there are any bad side effects or toxicity issues. Ask a pharmacist or holistic expert too.

Old threads have shown it being recommended by CS and Little Fighter.. so I'm not sure.

Edit: I just read about how if you have gastritis (which I'm starting to believe I do) , then Betaine HCL can cause ulcers and damage stomach lining. I'm not gonna take any more Betaine HCL as the past few days my stomach has been hurting and making gurgling noises. Anyone know how I can fix my stomach, or gastritis? Maybe I need to make my stomach lining stronger?

You might have H Pylori infection, which is a known cause of gastritis. Supplementing with sulforaphane, or eating broccoli sprouts, will help.

Do you take any NSAID medications or consume alcohol? If yes, those could be the causes.

The other possible causes are stress, and bad timing of meals (eating too close to bed time).
