Will they both do the same thing in terms of benefits for hair ?

As they are both sulfur products ?

It's just that betaine is meant to taste better than MSM. easier to take. thoughts ?

TMG messes with my bowels. I can't take it. Gives me the runs. I took less than 1000mg/day for a little over a week before I started having side effects. Which was a shame, because that first week I loved it. It gave me energy.

MSM, on the made me sick within a day or two. But on CS's advice I radically increased my dose (to over 20,000mg/day) and radically increased my water intake, and got over being sick from MSM in about a week. I held to the big dose for a few weeks and began to feel better than before I started. Now I take a normal 8,000mg/day dose and love it. Haven't been doing it long enough to say long term benefits to hair but people comment on my skin.

Betaine is a big donor of methylgroups and seems to act on the GI tract and digestion for a lot of people.

I don't know all the chemistry but the MSM and TMG are not equivalent and shouldn't be conflated.

Interesting

but using the sulfur theory of hair loss, any methyl donor would do the same thing ?

In this article, he basically talks about MSM and betaine in the same sentence
