OT: effective natural **adaptogenic** SSRIs?

Does anyone know of any effective natural adaptogenic SSRIs?

Not sure what SSRI's are but I hear Rhodiola and Ashwagandha are good adaptogenic herbs

I tried everything " natural" that you can imagine. Depression continued to spiral downward. Now I take a Big Pharma pill to keep the blues away. Saved my life.

I doubt that very much.

SSRI's are poison (they inhibit thyroid function and raise prolactin levels).

There's lots of ways to boost the mood, but everyone is different.

when it concerns adaptogens the pharma-lingo of things like SSRIS and DA/NE RIs becomes rather moot, considering these plants contain mainy phytoneutrients.chemicals which act in concert on the body to produce such effects, yet are not in and of themselves wholly reducible to these pharmocological categories known here (specific seretoni reuptake inhibitors, etc.).

that being said, there is a wikipedia page devoted entirely to this notion,, and i'm sure by now if you were serous then you would have found it by now. but that's now where the story ends.

why are you looking for not just herbs to mimic these effects but also adaptogens in particular? the way i see it, any fine adaptogen that is causing one's body to adpat to its envinromental-determined stress state is going to regulate the serotonergic system in one way or another, and it's just a matter of guessing and checking to find the one of these many herbs that works best for your. knowing you maybe have a SERT (serotonin) imbalance could just be on the lip of the doc who suggested as so, based on all the simplistic and reductionist literature out there deceiving pshych docs today.

in general i suggest a regimen of good quality adaptogens that work on a variety of known receptors and facets of the human organism that can set you up for optimal mood and health regulation. it is a matter of trial and error, as the seeminly obvious ones (i.e. kanna) will just jack your serotonergic system into overdrive and make you feel insane and inebriated, without affecting real healing. my personal two favorites are ashwagandha and gotu kola taken together, but the list is nearly limitless.

What conventional medicine ignores about mood disorders is that they are rooted within the brain-gut-axis and are repairable. How that is performed is different in everyone - (based on their needs an in a holistic principle). 

That said, hair loss is just part of the symptom in some cases...Taking SSRI's just promotes more hair loss and damages the gut and thyroid.

The pharmaceutical industry's use of marketing has convinced people they have a chemical imbalance, yet this has never been proven. They do not use tests to prove their claims.
