Infra Red Sauna...question for CS
Hi CS. NYJets asked the following question recently which caught my eye:
Hope all is good. I understand you no longer use IR sauna? Is it for a particular reason? Do you still recommend it?
I have not seen a reply and was wondering if you could answer as I have an IR sauna and use it every week and am curious to know if any detrimental effects have been discovered.
Thanks

Fibonacci - If you can find that link, I'll check it out.
I do still use the IR sauna...and also I took a year break and have resumed it at the beginning of spring.
At around the time of using it some 3 years ago and about at the 1 1/2 year mark I started to think about not just the sweat loss (think of those posts from Xenon about sweating/heat), but also I looked into the whole situation with mineral loss.
After a while I began to question two things....was there a problem either heat, or the mineral loss or both?
My conclusion (my hair provided the answer on this one). At first I suspected it was the heat...however that was just pure thought without any real knowing....Ultimately, the truth came out....it was the mineral loss.
So in the beginning I started to be cautious once I took potential heat into account. Subsequently, I really took the mineral situation seriously. When we sweat profusely, we are losing mostly sodium chloride (not as much potassium as most would assume), some iodine and probably some magnesium (this is harder to measure).
Also, there is zinc and copper and iron loss. I consider the iron loss usually very good (for us men).
So, I no longer use any "heat protection" when using the IR sauna...instead, I just bone up on electrolytes

And I also insure that I'm taking a zinc/copper balance supplement. Magnesium is also a must have.
There's a more technical explanation for this, but essentially the IV-like solution helps the body keep cool and transport electrons. Has it made a difference with my hair? Yes, and it was a surprise.

Is the trace minerals a good enough supplement for magnesium, zinc, and copper? What else would you recommend?

No, unfortunately a trace mineral supplement isn't enough for support these particular minerals.
I take a "zinc balance" that contains both zinc and copper
I also take or have experimented with different types of magnesium.
Magnesium Malate is good. Everyone is different, so experimentation is always worth it.

Re: Infra Red Sauna...question for CS
Is the EMF concern with far infrared a concern for someone not sensitive to EMF? It's difficult to find any opinion on the topic that doesn't end in a sales pitch for a near infrared sauna that is a 300% mark up over their own far infrared saunas; even though they're just swapping out bulbs of relative cost. It's hard to tell if it's a marketing ploy or not. Those ten dollar near IR bulbs I just linked jump to $570+ for just a panel of four. Has anyone seen a pre-built near IR sauna that isn't a price gouge?
I did find a steam version of the the portable sauna for $120. Is this a suitable substitute or are steam saunas absent of a certain IR benefit when it comes to detox?

Re: Infra Red Sauna...question for CS
I use a cheap sauna (infrared), steam sauna does not compare to it. Low EMF is only for those who are sensitive to it.

Links? Why do you not list them on your regimen? Only magnesium in decalcify?CausticSymmetry wrote:Growdamnit wrote:Is the trace minerals a good enough supplement for magnesium, zinc, and copper? What else would you recommend?

Growdamnit - Everyone's needs are a little different. I was not taking these so regularly prior to the use of the IR sauna for example. At some point will reproduce an older article on minerals to www.Longevitypost.com

Re: Infra Red Sauna...question for CS
I went ahead and purchased a far infrared sauna, and even with the advice to keep a negative ion generator running and stock up on electrolytes, I'm having trouble with memory recall and brain fog. I haven't felt something hit me this noticeably since finasteride. Is there something else I'm leaving out?

Help me understand, you feel the brain fog is a reaction from the initiation of FAR sauna use? What are you using for electrolytes?

Re: Infra Red Sauna...question for CS
Yeah, here is an excerpt from the thread I referred to:
I'm using the 40,000 volts and about 3 grams of Celtic salt afterwards.

Surprisingly, this statement is probably accurate but avoidable and easily reverses very fast. What he's talking without knowing are most likely the effects of positive ions. Those infrared bulbs emit lots of positive ions and in an enclosed space and without enough negative ions, use of an infrared sauna can make one feel sluggish, etc..

Re: Infra Red Sauna...question for CS
Yes, an excellent point. It is vital (necessary I think) to resupply minerals and electrolytes if the sauna is used.
