use Taurine, not MSM
1) both are sulfur
2) reverses fibrosis of the liver, and in theory, fibrosis of the scalp
3) blocks TGF beta 1, which dumps excess collagen in the scalp causing the microscopic scar tissue - which blocks hair
4) talked about extensively on http://www.hairloss-research.org
5) l'oreal wrote a massive patent which included tons of research connected to taurine and hair
6) zinc amplifies its effects
7) cheaper
8 has less purity requirements than MSM and interaction problems
If MSM does not give results, use taurine instead.

Doesn't taurine interact with hormone or thyroid level?

Perhaps
However MSM did not work for me, and this seems a realistic alternative

Taurine is a GABA agonist. Would avoid daily long term use.

Many foods that we eat are GABA agonist, yet we eat them every day. There are no studies on this topic, Taurine was proclaimed safe to take long term.

Re: use Taurine, not MSM
take it with theanine to enhance it, maybe.
it may not work not work for some people, but it will play on the serotonin factor of hair loss.
however lysine, may only work for women, and may cause thinning in men,and must be balanced with arginine

Animal products are not used to make these.
We cannot survive without basic amino acids.
These aminos and that includes organic sulfur are not made from animal products
Taurine is a sulfur based amino acid

what do you think about using taurine for longevity.
it is so cheap and available that I think many overlook it

put it in your ass along with an enema and forget about mycotoxins. Health and longevity related? yes. cheap -yes.

Which "foods" are you speaking of?
We are not talking about consuming very small amounts of taurine found naturally in food, in the presence of other aminos. We are talking about taking large doses of it alone which would never be possible through diet, where the effect becomes much like a drug.
Proclaimed safe by whom? In what context or amount? The dose makes the poison. We eat salt every day too (much more than taurine) and too much salt or potassium can be fatal.
Lastly, there are no studies on what topic? No studies on taurine? Edit* I think you mean to say no long term studies? Either it was "proclaimed safe" or it hasn't been studied. Can't be both.
I have to remember that most people here are not scientifically minded (anymore) but I have to draw the line when I see erroneous statements like this that could lead to harming someone. I will say again- taurine shares an effect similar to strong gaba agonists which are known to be one of- if not THE most difficult class of substances to come off of. Highly dependence forming, and I have read anecdotal reports of people suffering after discontinuing large amounts of taurine after long term chronic use. Use with caution.

Re: use Taurine, not MSM
Up to 3 g a day of supplemental Taurine is generally considered safe, especially if you balance it with higher intake of other amino acids. I was talking about long term studies on GABA agonist supplements like Taurine. I agree though you can't compare high dosage supplement with GABA foods like Almonds, Tomatoes, Berries, Kefir, Green Tea etc. My post was made quickly so I put the words mindlessly - I have studied a lot about Taurine...
