I was thinking testing out DMSO behind the ear first to see if there is an effect, DMSO has some great nerve regenerating properties.
Seems MSM works very similar, could take months or years to get an effect but currently can touch sulfur at the moment, so DMSO would be the way to go for me.
Someones comment;
"Someone has asked this same question on yahoo answers check it out http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081018001628AAXgM4G Perhaps: Tinnitus is residual, receding with time. Fifteen years of tinnitus for half my 30 years; I’m married and have a daughter. I have no military history; an avid guitar player, and I wear prescription glasses for farsightedness. I pay taxes, I’m educated, and I work. Now, my research has yielded results: prescription drugs complicate things; quality of life is of profound importance, and pills are just powerless against “White Noise”. Recent cases of inner ear conditioning have been emerging by some brilliant doctors here in the US; at OHSU Oregon, Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, and The John Hopkins University – one of the country’s leading centers for medical research. A topical cream, DMSO (maybe you’ve heard of it), is being used to treat tinnitus. What it does: DMSO is a chemical compound that pulls oxygen through the skin from the air to the damaged nerve area; tinnitus occurs when nerves inside the ear(s) were damaged resulting in compromised hearing. The quickness of recovery varies and is dependent on the factors: the severity (loudness), bad habits like smoking, and of course – stress; it’s alright☺ The best place to find DMSO is online; I hope to help – Oh, and one other thing: READ ANY LABELS BEFORE APPLYING… It’s just better that way. Re: DMSO for tinnitus?
This topic is a bit challenging because it often involves different causes, and different treatments work better than others.
However, the one I look towards first deals with the relationship between the teeth and proprioception.
This can get complicated. That being said (sometimes) if lucky, melatonin will help a little.

Re: DMSO for tinnitus?
Mine happened in my right ear randonly, had it for almost a year. Hope its not acoustic Nueroma. I went to the doctor and took a blood and urine test every thing was fine. Mine happened after going to a loud as bar for my friends birthday. Ringing was happening the day after in both ears on and off, then for a month it went away. Then in October as I was walking my dog in the early evening my ear began to ring and it wouldn't stop. Its not to loud its medium. Can only hear it when its completely quiet, sometimes I forgot I have it and its like its not ringing at all. I notice the ear it is in has had heavy earwax I had to pull out twice. One time my right ear was clogged for a day, And finally I stock my pinky in my ear and a big glob of earway came out. Happened again a few months ago, hopefully its impacted ear wax causing the ringing in my ear.

Dealing with infection and aligning jawbone without drilling the surfaces might stop the tinnitus also. High dose of magnesium and silica helped with my grinding - and not sleeping for too long (10-12h), else going in tooth socket inflammation mode, which meant teeth grinding for me almost always.
