Does iodine therapy help both hyper and hypothyroid?
Does iodine therapy help both hyper and hypothyroid or does it potentially hurt one of those conditions? I'm thinking about taking it and would like to know some thoughts about how it regulates the thyroid or whether it simply stimulates. Also, what brand of iodine is recommended? Thanks.

Re: Does iodine therapy help both hyper and hypothyroid?
It helps with both (hyper and hypo).
Be sure to take with selenium and magnesium.
I recommend starting off with this form. It is usually well tolerated.
http://www.iherb.com/TPCS-Iosol-Formula-II-1-fl-oz-30-ml/4785
The first week, one might experience some detox effects (bromidism), caused by the release of halogens.
These can be reduced by salt loading and vitamin C.

You will experience detox symptoms the first days cause iodine dissolves ,cleans tissues and increases
metabolic rhytms.
My experience says it is not safe for long term use.
You have to also take the other stuff which i dont plan doing so.
Instead of selenium try one brazil nut a day.Put some brazil nuts into a jar and take one
before bed like a pill.

7 drops of this form, however would start off with less and build up.

How is this Isol iodine superior to iodine food sources like kelp or other sea weeds? Â Is it accuracy of dosing? Â Bioavailability?

CS, you say start off with Iosol, do you recommend people go over to other forms as they progress?
I'm up to 24 drops of Iosol now, read it's safer than potassium iodide?

Iosol is a combination of concentrated kelp and ammonium iodide. Some kelp products contain contaminants and do not have enough iodine in them.
There is also a food (seaweed concentrate, 40:1), we call it Thyroid Boost that contains alginates and other things that pull out heavy metals and provide additional nutrients.

Iosol is a good starter (or Thyroid Boost), however Lugol's 5% is easier for high dose.
I only use Iosol because it's easier to obtain quickly.
It's also possible to find 7 to 15% Lugol's as well.
Lugol's solution is a combination of iodine and potassium iodide. (oxidized and reduced forms that are needed in specific tissues).

Re: Does iodine therapy help both hyper and hypothyroid?
No, in my experience it does absolutely nothing for hypothyroidism.
Though, I still think it might be beneficial since it helps so well in things like FBD (and reducing estrogen is most likely good for males too).

So, if someone has a TSH at 2.5 how could reduced at 1 - 1.5? I thought that iodine could help with that...?

CS,
please do you think is it wise to take Thyroid Boost and also Chlorella? And is it necessary to supplement Zinc separately when i am already getting Zinc from Chlorella, Organic Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil and Immune Boost 77 (Morningstar Minerals) ? Thanks.

It did not change my TSH at all. There was someone on this forum whose TSH shot up into 60 while on iodine for a few months then came back down to 3. Some people's TSH reduced. You can only try it and see what happens...

Is it better to spread 7 drops across the day or is the same effect if I take 7 drops at once? Also do you need to stir well so that water becomes clear?

Re: Does iodine therapy help both hyper and hypothyroid?
Now at 24 drops of Iosol I'm starting to get nauseaus when I take it (all in one glass of water on empty stomach in the morning).
How can I proceed? Should I split the dosage?
Any thoughts on this CS, and the reason for the nausea?

Re: Does iodine therapy help both hyper and hypothyroid?
almost two weeks on iosol. I started with 2 drops for three days and then 3 drops, with no problem.
The last three days, after 4 drops, i really can't sleep at all and yesterday i had a bad neck pain...i also take 200mcg selenium.
Should i go back at 2-3 drops?

Re: Does iodine therapy help both hyper and hypothyroid?
I want to get back on an iodine phase. I found an older bottle of Iosol in my cupboard from a couple years ago (opened but hardly any used), I figured it was no good and was going to toss it, but noticed it had an expiration sticker that said "9 20". I assume it is September 2020, can anyone confirm for me that the shelf life on this stuff (iodine in general) is that long? Will be ordering another bottle anyway, but want to use this if its still good.

Re: Does iodine therapy help both hyper and hypothyroid?
I use right now 150mcg of iodine/day, which is the recommended daily value 100% (with selenium). Is that not sufficient enough it seems?

Can iodine deficiency causes both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism?
Will 150-200 mcg be sufficient to reverse an iodine deficiency?
Is it true that taking selenium while being deficient in iodine is aggravating the iodine deficiency?
Thanks

12mg or more daily is sufficient.
Yes it is true.

Yes it is true.
Yes but wouldn't it be too much? I read that doses above 400 micrograms a day and more could paradoxically cause subclinical hypothyroidism.
Concerning selenium I noticed that I started losing a lot more hair soon after I started taking it in February 2013, now I think I understand the reason.
I stopped taking it and started taking iodine, I do hope that the loss is reversible.

Re: Does iodine therapy help both hyper and hypothyroid?
The consensus at the curezone iodine forum leans toward Lugol's iodine, which I use myself. A thread on Iosol:
