The ingredient they are really talking about is Polygonum multiflorum. This is something I had tried in various forms over the years, however in my case without much success. it's worth a try nonetheless.

Apparently the polygonum enhances blood flow to the scalp, the idea of enhancing blood flow to the scalp has been brought up in other posts... I just find this connection interesting.
And a study as topical application:

or He shou wu or Shou Wu or ho shou wu, and i think several other variations.
ive tried in in many different products, and its never done anything noticable, however possibily in a concentrated form, maybe it will do something.
btw ive heard it can cause liver damage, so if u have high liver function tests, or liver issues, its better avoided.

Re: Interesting Chinese Herb for Hair Loss
Yes, Fo-ti, Polygonum multiflorum, He Shou Wu, etc.
I've tried it topically, internally...The theory behind it makes sense, the mechanisms make sense, however
in my experience it took a more profound level of reparation to take things to a noticeable level.
The research of late uses more concentrated fractions of the active constituents.

Thanks CS - The fact that they are using more concentrated fractions of the active constituents means that it's more powerful?
When you say, "it took a more profound level of reparation to take things to a noticeable level" are you talking about dietary changes that you made, or are you referring to thyroid healing specifically?

It's also a potent alpha-5-reductase inhibitor:

According to that study riboflavin (a common b vitamin) was more potent than the active ingredient (emodin) of polygonum multiflorum....
