Re: Is 400mg magnesium safe to take long term? (talking years-lifetime)
Absolutely is.
Even the US RDA for magnesium for an adult male over 31 is somewhere around 400-420 mg. This is the result of balance studies which result in the amount that is used to prevent deficiency. A little over or a little under isn't going to hurt you. There has been plenty of research out there for specific conditions that have used multiple gram doses, and typically the worst side effect is diarrhea.
At 400mg you are totally safe. If you start experimenting with higher doses, you'll know your tolerance level when you get bad diarrhea. In excess, you'll develop low blood pressure and heart palpitations. But at 400 mg, you should be just fine.

Yeah, there have been some days where Ive gone over ( I take for health issues but also as an ototoxicity preventative, as I have very sensitive and somewhat damaged ears). So I ve gone up to like 800 mg /day for weeks at a time and I think ive gotten something similar to palpations, but im not sure. Maybe it was gas.
Anyways, thanks for the feedback
