Can hair loss be caused by excess inflammation in the body alone

I actually just posted an article about this, the doctor seems to think so. He think inflammation is at the root (or at least aids) almost all modern day illnesses such as cancer and autism.

Generally, inflammation is involved in the hair loss process. However, you are asking whether hair loss is the result of whole body inflammation alone, and probably for most people that is not the case. In other words, there is usually a different underlying cause that leads to the inflammatory condition of hair loss. For example in androgenic hair loss, it is male hormones out of balance (which can also occur in females). Or, people can have a thyroid condition leading to thin, brittle hair.

This being said, alopecia arreata, which is hair loss unrelated to male pattern baldness that instead occurs in patches, has been closely correlated with inflammation http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23075639 and it may be the case in this situation that inflammation is the main and only factor.
