For us who thrive on beans, lentils, peas and nuts and want to go Vegan
.. How do we replace fish oil and get plenty of the long chain DHA - EPA fats?

probably flax seed/flax oil if ur looking for o-3 like fish oil..
eat acai berries too.. rich in medium chain fatty acids like o-6 and o-9 plus a bunch of other good anti oxidants.
however.. if ur not looking for ALA and rather direct DHA/EPA fats.. try algae supplements hah its what fish eat i presume.

This is no problem. Newer research suggests that we do not need that much DHA and EPA respectively.
The body will convert its parent Omega 3 oils into the amount of DHA and EPA that it wants. Therefore,
plant EFA's are okay. Plant-Based Omega-3·6·9
However, if you're still after DHA, there is DHA (docosahexaenoic acid from algal oil)

there are algae derived dha/epa products out there so you dont have to rely on your body's conversion of ALA to DHA/EPA.
They're completely fish free and vegan. Deva has some algal Omega-3 options... I use Deva multivitamin on a regular basis.

Masterf, I will just do the conversion .. According to CausticSymmetry it should not pose any problem. I grind up flaxseed on a daily basis anyhow to get lignans - only use 7-hmr when I am travelling and need capsules.

As masterfree stated, there are several companies who have EPA/DHA extracts of algae. Purely vegan sources.
Research also shows that a healthy tablespoon of coconut oil when taken with EPA/DHA can double your bodies absorption rate.
