Iodine supplements list

Let me start this thread with the 3 iodine supplements I am familiar with:

This does look good ... Iodine (5 mg as molecular iodine, 5 mg as sodium iodide, and 2.5 mg a potassium iodide) 12.5 mg!

Is this the same Lugols you guys have in the US? It seems it comes in 3%, 7% and 15% in the UK. I'm going top start supplimenting Iodine shortly, which would you recommend?

Berti - I have the 15% version from that exact store, I haven't actually used any yet as I still have a bottle of Iosol to finish. If you were starting out, possibly the 7% with a low number of drops, I'm not sure though.

What about making your own iodine? Anyone tried? It's not too complicated from what I've read.

I'm not sure how to take it myself, I've read quite a few post that say that start with a few drops then increase the dose but I am unclear on how you know when you've had enough?

I like the look of the products that Misirlou and CS posted, capsule form, that should take the mystery out of it. Not sure if you can get them in the UK though? I'll look into it.

Berti - If they're on iherb, order them to the UK, I've typically found the same product on iherb and say, amazon UK, it will be cheaper on iherb. The shipping is below £3 if the orders reasonably light, which is a pretty good price. If you're ordering from iherb, make sure all your orders are below £18, any more and you might get custom and import charges from the UK, I've had them before and they are very annoying.


Just put a drop in water and drink it. When I first started taking iodine, it tasted extremely strong and I coughed after it. Eventually it became less strong and my symtpoms began improving, I upped the dosage. Fast forward a month or two and i'm often taking 40 drops and not feeling anywhere near the coughing and strongness of that first drop. (I was using Iosol, much weaker version, you won't need to take 40 drops of lugols.) Make sure you're taking companion nutrients, such as selenium, magnesium, vitamin c and vitamin B2 + B3 if needed.

Search Iosol on iherb and could try that starting, its not as strong so you can build up slowly and people reported they've felt better on Iosol than lugols.

Don't be put off by detox reactions from iodine, look into salt loading to minimise detox from bromide being pushed out by the iodine.

Basically, theres no clear set way to know when to increase your dose, just increase the dose on how you feel, if you feel you could take a drop more, put one more in. Hope this has helped.

It's not an exact science then, supplimenting with iodine, I'll just get a bottle from bobbys and give it a go! 40 drops does seem like a lot though!!

I noticed the thread on salt loading, I hear this is also good for psoriasis.

Did you experience any detox symptoms?

Don't worry about it, I've made many, many orders and iHerb and if you keep it below £18 and it will be fine. You can get away with £20 if you need to, but I don't like risking it.

40 drops seems a lot, but it was 40 drops of iosol = 72mg iodine. 4 drops of that 15% bobbys healthy shop is about the same.

Personally I haven't had too much of detox, hitting around 70mg was the first time I ever felt anything negative, just felt a bit sick and had a headache for a day, nothing too bad, it's different for everyone though.
