CS,

Just read through you're blog posts on osteoporosis and was curious if you know a supplement available on iHerb that puts these factors all together? Strontium, K2, Magnesium etc...

For the record, the most prescribed drugs for bone loss, bisphosphonates [e.g., Fosamax, Boniva and Actonel] are poisons that eventually precipitate such sides as osteonecrosis and atrial fibrillation. They keep bone turnover in a state of suspended animation and give the false illusion of increased bone density on DEXA scans.

My recommendation at to the most complete and efficacious bone mineral supplement, or... the formulation took my mom from severe osteoporosis (spontaneous fractures of the tibia and fibula) to osteopenia in less than three years.

Jarrow's Bone-up

Cheaper (slightly better) Vitacost house version
http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Bone-Booster-Complex-with-MCHA-Vitamin-D

Contains MCHA (bone protein, phosphorus, and calcium) magnesium oxide, vitamins C, D3, K1, K2, B9, B12 also L-OptiZinc, glucosamine, lycopene, boron, manganese citrate, and copper gluconate. MCHA has the nicest balance of bone protein, phosphorous and calcium. My only real complaint is the formulation contains too much calcium and uses a cheaper and less bioavailable form of magnesium.

You would then just need to supplement with some silica, perhaps in its most bioavailable form: ionized or the cheapest form: diatomaceous earth. There are plenty of other silica supplementation from which to choose as well.

For older adults with severe and persistent osteoporosis, strontium citrate on an empty stomach every morning.

I use strontium, magnesium oil, tri-boron, vitamin d3, vitamin k2 (MK7 400mcg), iodine, selenium, diatomaceous earth, along with many other cofactors for bone growth as far as vitamins and minerals go.

Things like magnesium oil and diatomaceous earth are also decent sources of many other trace elements, considering mag oil is concentrated sea water (well, the Pacific mag oil I use is sea water) and diatom shell flour is only 84% silica ("only").

Other things you may want to look into are cissus, and the much debated comfrey. Cissus seems to have some bone growth implications according to recent research, and comfrey has a very long history in repairing bone, though is deemed too "dangerous" for human consumption by the FDA because of its alkaloid content. I make comfrey tinctures by the gallon, if that gives you any idea how I feel about the FDA.

I'd also make the recommendation for a pulsed electromagnetic device, especially in the nanosecond range. Or you could attempt the poor man's version of PEMF, as an easy DIY project.
