Self tanning lotions, good or bad?

Is Dihydroxyacetone bad for you skin/hair? Is it a bad idea to use on your scalp? I'm wondering if dmso shampoo might drag it deeper into the skin/bloodstream, since it supposedly stays in the skin cells.

Not nearly as bad as tanning beds.DHA is non-toxic.
