Curcumin/Resveratrol questions
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to quickly say hi and that I think this forum is great....
Also, I apologize if this is a question that's already been answered. Anyway, I am thinking about taking Curcumin and Resveratrol. I am just curious if anyone has any opinions on these, are they worth taking? I can't seem to find and/or understand many studies on them, also does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy the best quality of both of these.
I had read somewhere that Reservatrol is best taking in liquid form.... I guess it's absorbed better into your system through the mouth???? Does this make sense or is it something I should not bother myself with, and if so would this be the same with Curcumin?
I just heard about these two.... actually as much as I hate to admit it I am a bit behind on all things "natural" hair loss.
Thanks so much in advance for any help, I really appreciate it.

Re: Curcumin/Resveratrol questions
I take them, but it's too early really to claim any positive or negative effects as of yet. However, some people swear by them, like The Natural has had a very good experience with them, CS uses them, I've seen them recommended on quite impressive hair loss sites. They do seem to optimize hormone levels, decrease inflammation, help with insulin resistance, and many other issues that can be connected to hair loss.
I believe that it will result in a higher testosterone level though slightly, I tend to take lignans on and off too just in case that's bad for me, as I'm 25 so I don't want to risk too high T levels.
But yeah I'm glad you like the forum, I love it too and I am learning so much here

Re: Curcumin/Resveratrol questions
Pilot138 - Curcumin has many actions (downregulates androgen receptor, TGF-Beta), inhibits PLA-2, MMP-9, COX-2, TNF-a. However, when combined with resveratrol it also protects against neurogenic inflammation.
This study explains the synergy with Curcumin & Resveratrol
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19359525.
"Collectively, we suggest that trans-resveratrol and curcumin act as antagonists/inverse agonists at CB1 receptors at dietary relevant concentrations. Therefore, these polyphenols and their derivatives might be developed as novel, nontoxic CB1 therapeutics for obesity and/or drug dependence"
Here is information about CB1 receptors (endo- and exocannabinoids and their effect on hair growth)
http://www.fasebj.org/cgi/content/full/21/13/3534
Curcumin & Resveratrol isn't necessarily enough for everyone, but give it a try and see what happens.

Re: Curcumin/Resveratrol questions
I agree with IH here. Curcumin and resveratrol may not be enough for everyone. I do believe it's an excellent place to start though. I would also take vitamin D3, and then assess your hair/scalp's condition after a three month period.

Re: Curcumin/Resveratrol questions
Hey guys,
Thanks so much for all the info.... I will start looking for Curcumin and resveratrol to order.
Does anyone have any brands to recommend or avoid.... what daily dosage should I look for.
Also... has anyone heard of the "liquid" resveratrol being absorbed better?
Once again, thanks for the information. It's been a huge help to me.

Jarrows is a good brand, I take Jarrows Curcumin. Take a look at the Healthy Origins 10,000IU D3, I got the 360 caps bottle and they seem the best value for money.

This caught my attention because my hairline recession only became pronounced after a semester of heavy weed-smoking. Looks like I'm gonna lay off the old ganja from now on.

This thread here discussed the pros and cons of weed on hair. It's still a bit of a mystery.

Natural - I noticed your taking royal jelly now. I read in another thread that you've seen some benefits since consuming (though you can't attribute them directly toward the jelly at this time). Any updates? Any studies you've seen? I've been on bee pollen lately with no noticeable results. The Natural wrote:I agree with IH here. Curcumin and resveratrol may not be enough for everyone. Also, I see you stopped taking Vitamin E. You were a big proponent for awhile. Why the change?
Lastly, what form are you getting the turmeric and knotweed in? Are you buying a shaker of turmeric like you would use for cooking? What about the knotweed?

NewReg,
The changes that I am experiencing are cosmetic: thin regrown hair has become noticeably thicker since changing to whole herb extracts (Paradise Herbs). About the same time, I began taking a Y.S. Organic Bee Farms product (which contains royal jelly, pollen, and propolis), so unfortunately, I can't tell you exactly which one it is at this time. Though, I am inclined to believe that this royal jelly product might help those who have their hair loss under control, but are looking for a real boost (thickening).
I stopped taking tocotrienols (Toco-Sorb, Toco-8, A C Grace's) last year. Again, these were never used to stop my hair loss or even maintain, but for thickening regrown hairs. And I just found other less expensive products that were capable of producing similar or better results for me hair-wise.

Re: Curcumin/Resveratrol questions
So many confusing reports and articles...
Currently I take the Jarrows Curcumin (1 capsule) and NSI resveratrol (2 capsules - to get it over 200mg) in the evening right before dinner. Is this enough?
Can I add tocomin, MSM or vitamin D to this combo?
I just cannot find any clear answers on this.
Thanks.

Re: Curcumin/Resveratrol questions
Are there any threads or posts discussing what not to take with what and so on? I have formed my regimen based on the IH recommended top 6 and The Natural's regimen. I am just a little worried I might be taking supplements together that might clash.
I do not have recession, just thinning (which I think has stabilized)? So I see this as a very important time to get things right and nail the regimen home for a minimum of 6 months before assessing.
Thanks.

Re: Curcumin/Resveratrol questions
Its decent, only negatives I can see are that its a 90% extract as opposed to 99%, and has a couple crap fillers in there (ie. - magnesium stearate).

Re: Curcumin/Resveratrol questions
I do like Biotivia, but it's kind of expensive, especially when it comes to resveratrol.
Any opinions about this much cheaper one?
http://www.iherb.com/Enzymatic-Therapy-Resveratrol-Forte-60-Capsules/15697?at=0
100 % trans-resveratrol, 62,5 mg per capsule.
How much is maximum daily intake?
I would like to go pretty extreme with resveratrol.
