Iodine/Strange Taste in Mouth

Ever since I got pain in my neck from iodine, I've been a little scared to ingest it. But I've been using it topically on my scalp to see if it can help my inflammation. I use about 3-6 drops of iodine daily. Now as soon I started doing this, I got a very strange taste in my mouth. It's hard to describe, as it doesn't really taste similar to anything else. It just kinda tastes stale and rotten. Occasionally it'll disappear by the next morning, but will return once I use the iodine again.

I've seen CS describe a "metallic taste" as being allergic to iodine, although I've also seen other members suggest it may be a detox reaction. What could be causing the taste? Should I stop using the iodine?

thissucks - Jdp710 had a good post on this recently. Interestingly and perhaps not surprising, there's really no such thing as an allergy to iodine. Instead, the strange taste is an indication that you have bromide toxicity.

To help rid bromide faster, try salt loading along with extra vitamin C. Then go back on iodine sometime later.

To add to CausticSymmetry, here is a list of bromide symptoms.

Iodine-related bromide symptoms may include but are not be limited to:

eye lid twitching
foot twitching
tingling in hands or feet
dark thoughts (e.g., there is no reason to live)
depression (e.g., there is no reason to get out of bed)
anxiety
emotionality
mouth and tongue sores and cuts or "sore mouth"
"different" acne,"bromide acne," "acne-like eruptions" without "coniform."
(Some iodine users found zinc helps bromide acne.)

leg and hip ache (feels like arthritis)

metallic taste

Also, since you are getting detox reactions with just a couple drops of Iodine topically, I'd highly recommend that you read as much about Iodine supplementation as possible. Here is some good info.
