Sulforaphane...
Hey,
Just started taking Sulforaphane and I had no idea how powerful this stuff was... I've been taking it for a week and all itching is gone, hair feels much nicer.
What can I realisticaly expect going forward with this? In terms of feel it's like nothing else out there, big difference after a couple of days only, is there a reason this isn't in your top 6 IH? Can this thing halt further hair loss? Any hopes of regrowth?
The diabetes research with sulforaphane is pretty impressive, one british woman totaly stabilized in blood sugar in 6 months using broccoli sprout powder. This stuff seems like it could be the answer to alot of stuff!

Re: Sulforaphane...
Icanbeatthis - Thanks for your feedback, I'm really surprised I haven't seen other posts like this--Honestly, I'm just waiting for the feedback because I've been taking this stuff steadily since posting a few (in my view), groundbreaking studies on it.
I have speculated that Sulforaphane can switch off a prominent hair loss gene, so I'm totally with you on this. However, I wonder how many have experienced any difference. Maybe we need a poll?
Some time ago, we had some positive feedback on it, but only with regard to asthma and H. Pylori.
Here's the results for some of the Sulforaphane info on this forum:

Re: Sulforaphane...
Btw, I use the Swanson's branded BroccoPhane, 400mg. Don't know if there are better brands out there but this stuff definitely does something!
This is pretty exciting, I read that Sulforaphane can modulate Estrogen so this could be another way in which it might help us. We need more people to jump on this and see what happens, I plan on sticking with this for a LONG time.

Icanbeatthis - That stuff from Swanson's is in the mcg (micrograms).
The only product really worth while IMO is either Jarrow's activated selenium (has 9 mg of SGS) or Broccomax with 30 mg.

Re: Sulforaphane...
hmm, very interesting!
Does it have an effect on testosterone too? I am trying to better regulate my T and E levels...
Overall though I'll be following this thread, as it does seem like an exciting supplement!
Do you think your shedding has reduced (if you were shedding before I mean)?

Re: Sulforaphane...
Hmmm, I just ordered some BroccoMax from Iherb, still this is somewhat encouraging.
Getting results from such a small quantity makes me excited to see how I will feel on the more potent doses!

Re: Sulforaphane...
my hairdresser is a persian lady and last time i was in i asked her if my hair looked any worse since i have now stopped taking propecia for 6 months and she said it looked the same. Then she started telling me how one of her other clients was going bald, very thin up top, clear bald spot in the back, but the last time he was in he had filled in quiet a bit. So she asked what he was doing and i guess hes a doctor and has found a mixture of rosemary oil, sage oil, brocolli oil and i think the last one was almond oil. She said he sold it to a company in Canada (where im from) and it should be out soon. Sounds interesting, is there such thing as brocolli oil? Her english isnt too great, maybe she was trying to say brocolli powder.

I just noticed Broccomax 's price is up $2 since last month on iherb.Actually they keep upping the price for their most popular products steadily almost every month/couple months.Great policy at such dire times!

edony - OMG, just saw that. At least Jarrow's activated selenium is still cheap.

Re: Sulforaphane...
CS, it looks like Jarrow's Activated Selenium is discontinued...do you have an alternate source? A quick google shows most places are out of stock.
BroccoMax is much more expensive, but it provides 3 times as much SGS, would it be OK to take it every 4th day? This makes the price a bit more palatable since a bottle would last 7 months or so.
Also, I know broccoli spouts are high in Sulforaphane...how much do you need to eat to get what is required? I found this product BroccoSprouts but it apparently only has 9mcg per 1/2 cup (1oz) serving.
I also found this Broccoli Sprout Capsules w/ Sulforaphane capsule but it looks like only .21% of 250mg is Sulforaphane, by my math that's .525 gram/capsule. This is more expensive than BroccoMax but does Sulforaphane vs SGS make a difference?

This is really bad news.. Jarrow's Selenext is one of my favorite supplements. I hope this is just a temporary shortage.. and not an end to this supplement.

Re: Sulforaphane...
xyion1,
Back when I was experimenting with Broccomax and Selenext for seasonal allergies last year, I found that it is possible to take Broccomax every other day or every third day to keep the cost down and still provide benefits similiar to Selenext.
Nowadays, I grow my own broccoli sprouts which has other benefits like DIM.
hope this helps

Re: Sulforaphane...
I went ahead and bought the replacement (sort of), which is Nature's Herb's Broccoli extract. It contains 5 mg of sulforaphane or 2% of 250 mg of broccoli extract.

Re: Sulforaphane...
A few months ago I placed a order for 2 bottles of selenext. Right when I got them shipped to me I got a email saying the product was discontinued and every thing. But a few weeks later it wasn't anymore. So it will probably come back.

Swimmy - The same thing happened to me. I really hope that made the same mistake they did last time. Maybe it will be back.

Hmm just saw this post again! Anyone have any idea why that combo is particularly effective? I guess they are just all useful individually for hair loss o.O

Amazon has BroccoMax for $16.23 and free shipping. Is it worth the extra bucks compared to the Nature's Way?

Hmmm went to that link and no free shipping now... and it's $17.30. Well if you click on the 13 available from link... there is one listed with free shipping but it is back-ordered. And while some have + $0.00 shipping below the price you have to look at their shipping policy. NetRush has + $0.00 shipping below their price in the list of 13... but if you look at their shipping policy, they want $5.99 to ship. 'Vitamin Style' has it listed as $17.99, but their shipping policy indicates this type of item would ship free. In the end though, as I was already ordering some more stuff from Swanson, I got it from there as it $18.87 and shipping is always $4.99 for the whole order. I guess if I was looking to order just this product (or a lot of it in qty) I would have went with the slightly cheaper vendor.

Hmm not seeing what you are gregslater. I added the BroccoMax from NetRush and went all the way to the order confirmation page and it was still $16.23, free shipping, and in stock. It looks safe. I might order it later but I'm still finishing up a DIM complex I got from Vitacost a while back.

Thanks, I just went back and now see $16.23 now... I was basing my shipment comment per their shipment policy page that lists $0.00 per item, but $5.99 per total shipment:

Re: Sulforaphane...
Just as an update, I bought the BroccoSprouts I referenced above.
It cost $2.89 for a 4oz package, which is 4 servings. The package says EACH serving contains 73mg (milligrams!) of SGS per serving. The package also has a best by date, looks like its good for roughly 2 weeks, so I think this is a good natural alternative to another pill.
Also, the company that makes this is based out of Baltimore, MD. Johns Hopkins University is doing all sorts of studies on SGS so this could be where they are getting their product from. (I'll admit this is a reach).
