Vit C - optimal product? Empty Vit C - optimal product?

Post  Misirlou Thu Jan 07, 2010 10:22 am

I use vitamin C in my daily routine, but I'm not sure if I have the best one, the one I use is from Now Foods, a cheap powder.
Are there any better products to switch to? And how much should be used/day?

i use NOW Foods ascorbic acid powder as well. i'm going to change to another vitamin c though - preferably one that's not derived from corn.

jdp710 linked this one before:

It's an electrolyte supplement though. Their vitamin C is not derived from corn, but i don't know its source. I'm guessing it's derived from cassava root. I'm not a fan of cassava either though..

herbmark.com carries Nutribiotic's ascorbic acid crystalline powder, if you're interested:

I've read positive things about the naturally derived vitamin c from amla. Here's one I was going to try when I replenish my vitamin c...

Or at least something like it -- I haven't price compd or anything yet.

I think that one looks pretty good. Thanks for the find. Pricey, but dose for dose it looks like a better buy than the one I linked to.

Can we find this product (or similar) cheaper anywhere else? Right now the price/dose is HUGE, just not acceptable!

I've used this one before, and liked it. http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Tru-C-Bio-Vitamin-C-Complex-60-Vcaps/7260?at=0 It is cost prohibitive to take a lot, but the bio-availability probably makes up for that. I use the Now C-1000 now.

* Antioxidant Protection
* Amla Extract (100 % Natural, Non-GMO)
* Fruit Source, Corn and Citrus Free
* Immune and Vascular Support*
* A Dietary Supplement
* Vegetarian Formula

NOW Tru-C Biocomplex contains an extract of the Amla Berry (Phyllanthus emblica), one of the most frequently used Ayurvedic herbs. Amla is an exceptionally rich source of Vitamin C, Bioflavonoids, and Tannins. Recent scientific studies have shown that the tannins and flavonoids unique to Amla can help to support and modulate immune function. Amla may also provide protection for vascular structures against oxidative stress. In addition, Tru-C BioComplex contains Rutin, Rose Hips, and Grape Seed extract as synergists.* NOW Tru-C BioComplex contains only non-GMO, fruit derived Vitamin C. This 100 % vegetarian, non-synthetic source of Vitamin C is citrus-and corn-free.

If you were to raise the bar all the way, this is probably the best in pill form:
