hi CS,

Can you shed light what supplements in a regiment would stop Type 1 and Type 2?

Fin stops Type 2
Dut stops type 1 and 2.

I been reading that type 1 is really the more important one for hair regrowth/loss.

thanks!

Rob, actually type I and II refers to the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase; DHT is not classified in two types.

Many supplements like Green Tea, Black Tea, Curcumin, Zinc+B6 and others inhibit one or both types of 5AR.

The ImmortalHair regimen is not centered into 5AR inhibition. Nevertheless it should reduce it's levels and affect androgen receptors.

RobHealthMan - LittleFighter totally nailed it on the head.

In the late 90's my focus at that time was DHT, DHT and DHT. That was about 90% of my focus at the time, at least until the research began to broaden later on.

Cutting off DHT is a bit risky if it's done such to the extent that drugs do. Today there is enough evidence that shows it's best to stay clear of these. Some individuals suffer potentially irreversible endocrine damage from 5-alpha reductase inhibitors.

Personally I ran into some trouble with natural inhibitors of 5-alpha reductase. I spent years taking large amounts of beta-sitosterol and others and what I got was only a reduction of hair loss plus plus a few physical problems that came on subtle enough to not suspect them at first.

Getting off of them was a real eye-opener.

Based on research over the last 10 years or so, DHT is only a small part of the over all problem. My approach is to minimize the upregulation of inflammatory proteins that are initially signaled by DHT. So instead of killing the "messenger" that is DHT along with the other 5-alpha reductase catalyzing steroids (in addition to DHT), effecting other factors is a greater focus.

Neurogenic inflammation is one way to acquire inflammation (stress mediated)
Prostaglandin imbalance (high omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio causes this.

Oxidative stress--this is huge and special types of antioxidants can minimize this damage.

Insulin/glucose regulation can alter IGF-1 to IGFBP-3 levels

There's much, much more.

Hey CS,

I just caved and went back on the finasteride. While we're on the subject, do you think that finasteride (or natural 5-ar inhibitors) would be synergistic with your regimen, or do you see how finasteride could interfere or be counterproductive in some way?

My second question is if you yourself or in your experience with others, have noted specific endocrine changes due to finasteride. Any tell-tale flags? I ask because my LH was sky high, and I'm wondering if that is from my body not getting the hormones from the 5ar pathway and therefore signaling to produce more testosterone. Then again my free testosterone was low too. I had been off finasteride for at least a month when i got the tests done. With such a short half-life, I don't see how it could still be affecting hormones so much after that time- dutasteride I can see.

JHarsh80 - A lot of different reactions can occur and in vary different in every individual. Many can take these drugs without any significant problem. I have heard of at least one case where both T and LH dropped quite a bit after they stopped using finasteride.

Your problem may not be related to finasteride and could as mentioned before relate to what is responsible for low cholesterol level, which is problem keeping your testosterone low. I would venture to guess it could be benzodiazepines, and in fact anytime you mix one drug with other, the reactions are extremely difficult to pinpoint.

If you mixed a proteasome inhibitor with benzodiazepines, that can cause a depletion of DHEA, and it's unknown what other effects could occur. Polypharmacy is among the largest killer.

Thanks CS! I am hoping that it isn't the finasteride like you said. Only time will tell. I am continuing to taper off the other two drugs. I agree that polypharma is extremely bad/dangerous. I can't really even turn on the news without seeing the effects of it, or commercials pushing yet another new drug. I really get annoyed with the yearly flu scare and constant vaccination coverage. It seems to get worse and more fear driven each year.

Thank you for this CS!

Do you mind explaning a little deeper your philosophy here. Up until now, my perception of addressing hairloss naturally was naturally minimizing DHT while at the same time addressing inflammation and circulation to the hair follicle. It sounds like you are ok with letting DHT production but just stop the damaging affects of it to the hair.

There 3 areas you addressed above.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Neurogenic inflammation is one way to acquire inflammation (stress mediated)
Prostaglandin imbalance (high omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio causes this.

im trying to consume 2000mg of Omega 3 a day. Are there any other supplements to help this in addition to omega 3?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Oxidative stress--this is huge and special types of antioxidants can minimize this damage.

which anti-oxidants on your regiment address this?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Insulin/glucose regulation can alter IGF-1 to IGFBP-3 levels

do you mean here that keeping sugar low therefore keeping insulin production low helpful here?

thank you as always CS!
