How to experiment with topicals?

Let's assume that I would like to try aloe vera gel and argan oil.
When and for how long should I put them on my scalp?
15 mins before the morning shower? 1hr before? Or maybe just before going to bed? Is it okay to leave an oil on your hair/scalp for the whole night?
For how long should I use a topical to check whether it's working or not? Is 1 month enough?

The only topical that works is an enzyme peel.
There is skin blocking the follicle. You can use topicals after but until you remove the surface build up, not much is gonna penetrate.
