pyruvic acid sources?
I can't find any source for pure pyruvic acid to compound in my own solution. I can only find its salts. Most commonly sodium pyruvate and calcium pyruvate.
I can find 40%-50% pyruvic acid in water/ethanol solution. Maybe I should just get that and just dilute it further.
My goal would be to compound high % minoxidil with ethanol, water and pyruvic acid. No Propylene Glycol and no glycerin.
As far as I understand, Pyruvic Acid would have a peeling effect, much like retin-A, but also a hydrating effect, being capable to trap and retain water.
This should help a lot with the absorption of minoxidil in the scalp. The reason why the effectiveness of topical minoxidil is sub-linear w.r.t. its concentration is that ethanol and water evaporate quickly. As this happens, the same amount of minoxidil is diluted in less and less solvent and hence precipitates and crystalizes. Somehow, acids like Azelaic Acid and Phosporic Acid do increase the minoxidil solubility. This also helps after the evaporation of ethanol and water. But if we could trap water, it should be so much better. The gentle peeling effect would also help absorption, much like with retin-A.
