Onion body odor, possibly related to hair loss?
Since puberty, I have always had a very strong onion smell when I sweat. But since about a month ago, my odor has disappeared and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with some of the supplements I am taking. A few months ago, I had to wear deodorant at all times, but now it's not even necessary to wear deodorant even when I'm going for a long bike-ride.
So I looked into some of the causes of onion body odor and found that onions are typically what women smell like, men are supposed to have a cheese body odor.

So it sounds like a lot of estrogen causes this sulfphur compound to much more abundant in our sweat. So now that my onion odor has disappeared, I'm hoping maybe this is a sign that my hormones are starting to normalize.
Do any of you other pre-mature balders out there have onion body odor?

The team found that the women's armpit sweat contained relatively high levels of an odourless sulphur-containing compound - 5 milligrams per millilitre of sweat versus 0.5 milligrams in men. When the researchers mixed this compound in the lab with bacteria commonly found in the armpit, the bugs turned it into a thiol - a previously discovered odour from armpits that is akin to onion.

i guess i'm one of the lucky ones. i never smell, even when i'm sweating like crazy. I won't even smell when i eat lots of garlic.
Anyway, i'm glad you got rid of the odor. any idea as to which supp you're taking that got rid of it?

I think it was the maca powder I was taking, because I've read it normalizes hormone levels. And it sounds like this onion odor is caused by high amounts of estrogen, so it makes sense that the maca cleared it up. Things I also started taking about the time the odor went away were niacin and krill oil, but I don't think that would help at all.
