Are supplements ok to take long term? Or will the body get lazy and stop producing on its own?
What is the overall opinion on this?

I can only answer for myself....I've probably answered similar questions 100 times...there's a point where there isn't enough time.

I have the same concerns so I only take essential nutrients and not some of the other supplements talked about here (Acetyl L-Carnitine, CoQ10, Lipoic Acid, etc.) for now.

I would also think about avoiding minerals that are essential for plant growth if you are eating fruits and vegetables. If a plant doesn't get these nutrients it won't exist for you to eat. Magnesium is necessary for chlorophyll production and if a plant doesn't get it it just won't grow so it's probably better to just eat some green veggies instead of taking magnesium for instance.
